Danny Lloyd, the child star of "The Shining," was pretty damn good
So many kid actors make me cringe. But he was on-screen as much--more?--than Nicholson or Duvall. Six-years old when during filming. Pretty impressive, if you ask me. Lots of long unbroken shots.

An other memorable performances by kids that young that come to mind?

Home Alone and the Sixth Sense had good child stars.

2. Good points about those two
They were roughly the same age? I saw Sixth Sense, but don't remember him too clearly. Never saw HA, but man that kid and clips were all over the media. He did seem unusually competent for a child actor. He pretty much carried that movie, too, didn't he?

3. I think the fame almost ruined Macaulay Culkin's life.
I think he lives in anonymity now.

5. She was magnificent in that role
Of course, the whole film was close to perfect, too.

7. Peter Ostrum from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Another one and done kid. Danny was in a movie about G. Gordon Liddy, but no more for the big screen after The Shining.

See, this was one of a few reasons why in some aspects Charlie and the Chocolate Factory doesn't measure up to the original. This version's kids seemed to mail it in; not really interesting compared to the personalities in WW, especially Veruca and Charlie.

Just perfect. She did a couple of more films, then dropped out of sight.

9. One of my roomates in college was supposed to get that role
Producion was delayed, he got too big. So, Danny Lloyd it was.

I wonder what Danny Lloyd is doing now. Roomie is an orthopedic surgeon.

He's a kid whose entire family has been murdered, and he delivers one of the best young performances I've seen.
