Crap. Had my credit card stolen this am!
:scared:

I was a dummy and left my purse on the passenger's seat this am. Someone stole my cc while I was in the gym. :eyes: Made about $500 worth of purchases around town at Target and Circuit City.

Bastards.

I did report it missing just now. The card issuer did freeze the account and will refund me the money they spent and send me a new card. That's good.

Still I'm worried they might try to get my identity. What else should I do? I'm really worried since this is the first time this has ever happened to me.

1. I have that Lifelock deal
Costs me $110 a year and it's supposed to be bullet proof for identity theft. There are several companies out there that offer the service, so shop around if you decide to go that route.

4. I've wondered about that
If it works they way it's supposed to.

6. I had a deal with credit card fraud, too, that's why I signed up for that
The person who stole my credit card number ran up $13,000 in cash advances and purchases before I caught it. I rarely used that card and only found the fraud when a rare transaction was turned down. Luckily, the credit card comapny ate that $13,000 and I didn't have to pursue legal action. They just wanted me to agree to assist in any investigation and I was alright with that. After I got the lifelock deal (they put the fraud alerts on my credit reports) the thief tried to get a new card in my name. I was alerted to it and was able to verify that it was not me that was applying for the credit. You can put the fraud alerts on you credit by yourself, but they expire after 90 days. Lifelock automatically renews mine.

2. Get a fraud alert posted to your credit reports.

It'll make it a pain in the neck for anyone to get new credit in your name. The only caveat is that includes you.

Here's a description from one credit bureau:

3. Does that include only the possibility
that someone may try to get credit with my name? (Good luck, I haven't had credit in about 10 years. )

5. So called "ID theft" is mostly about credit theft.
Credit includes loans too.

If you have a credit card you have credit, don't you? It may be badcredit...:silly:

7. I filled out the form at that Experian site
they put up a page saying that they will notify the other agencies too. I'll check them later just to make certain.

Wonder if I have to notify the SSA?

9. That stinks. Thank goodness the law prevents you from having to pay for that!

11. Yes, absolutely!
They weren't very imaginative thieves in the end.

Two medium big charges at Target and one at a BP station.
