How much does it cost to get tile installed?
We're talking a 3x10 countertop with backsplash.

I'm just looking for a ballpark figure.

Is it 50 bucks for installation? Or 500?

5. Oh, that's pretty!
Can you do any of this yourself? What do you have along the backsplash now? Is there tile there that you'll have to remove?

6. It's got gray faux-marble tile on there now
Gray vinyl on the floor.

The walls are super-faint purple that looks like white with something oddly off about it.

There's a florescent light, and it gives the kitchen all the charm of a morgue.

We removed this horrible floral border that had plums and grapes and other crap.

I'm sure the kitchen was really happening in 1985. :eyes:

It's going to be yellow and blue with a Mexican theme now. :D

But the tile I found for the backsplash? That site was saying I'd need $750 bucks worth of tile. So we might have Mexican with gray tile. :eyes:

8. I've never posted there,

but I've learned a _lot_ about doing stuff myself. I wish I'd discovered it before I attempted to paint the ceramic tiles in one our our bathrooms. What a massive disaster _that_ was. I used the wrong kind of paint for the first two coats and had to remove it with acetone. Ugh.

10. I had a similar incident -- Whoa Nelly told me how to fix it.

It involved sanding paint off of drywall. It was horrible, but it worked!

Nice to know the forum exists!

2. Just installation is gonna be a couple hundred.
Depends on who does it. Varies a lot. Watch out for do it your-selfers and too low inexperience. I'd rather pay a little more because you're gonna have to look at it everyday.

3. Tile is easy to DIY
Or maybe I'm just a hopeless sucker for those shows on HGTV. . . Honestly, if you take your time you can do a really professional job, especially an area that small. I would save my money on the installation and splurge on special tile. I've gutted a kitchen and bath with pretty good results, so I don't think I'm talking out my arse here.

9. I agree-- tiling is pretty simple, especially walls. I've done showers, floors, and
Fireplace surrounds. You can save a lot of money, a get a nice sense of accomplishment, too.
