1. The Velvet Fog was one of jazz's greatest singers....
and even the most fleeting time spent with, for example, Harry Connick, Jr. shows that he had a style worth copying.

I have most of his albums and saw him three times in concert. A great singer and musican.

8. I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl in 98 or so and....
what few people realize is what a in-the-pocket drummer he was. He got about a 4 minute solo in the middle of one number (they brought out a special set for him) and he smoked.
