Just booked our cruise for June
Majesty of the Seas

it will be our 6th cruise

our first one was on this beautiful boat back in 97

We used our stimulus check from last year and also we had 2 free airline tickets that I won in a drawing last August

our cruise basically cost us nothing...

we are staying at a hotel the day before and the day after so all in all our 7 day trip cost us about 300 bucks!!!

3. That's great. The last time I was on a cruise was my honeymoon about 15 years ago. I loved it, but
we just haven't gone back yet. We're doing Vegas again this year, so maybe next year we'll try the cruise thing. I hope you have a great time.

5. Cruises are fun, but I SO miss Windjammer Barefoot Cruises
They were the best!

Hope you have a great cruise!

6. They went out of business?
I've sailed on Windjammer many times and just did a search for old times sake.

7. Sadly, yes
The founder lost his heart for running the business after they lost a ship and crew in a hurricane. The folks who took it over ran it into the ground.

Such a great line. Had a couple wonderful cruises with them.

8. Which ship and which hurricane?
I've sailed many times on the Polynesia and twice on the Mandalay. Made some great friends that way and with whom I am still in touch.

I remember being in St. Maarten one time to sail on the Polynesia. One of their ships -- I think it was the Flying Cloud -- was damaged in the harbor at the time. As I recall, they were able to right the ship and fix it.

It's been a while since I've been on one, but they were great fun at the time. Thanks for responding.

11. They lost the Fantome to Hurricane Mitch in 1998
As Mitch approached, they disembarked the passengers in Belize. The crew took the ship away from the storms path to shelter it on the leeward side of an island (can't remember which). Unfortunately, the storm changed course, then "parked" in one area for nearly 24 hours. The ship and entire crew were lost.

While sailing on the Polynesia in 1996, we wound up sailing in tandem with the Fantome all week (we changed itineraries because of hurricane season). Each ship/crew took turns hosting deck parties throughout the week. It was a beautiful ship. Such a terrible loss.

12. I didn't realize that.

Ack. Sorry about the double post.

I was once on the Fantome when it and the Polynesia happened to be in the same harbor.

What a sad loss. All of their ships were beautiful.

The deck parties must have been great fun. Now I wonder what the Polynesia is doing. I loved that ship.

I have to wonder if some of the crrew I knew were lost, because they changed ships so often.

It's great to see another Windjammer fan on DU. Tomorrow I will have to inform my friends of this, since they have not informed me of this. Maybe they don't know.

Can't remember any of the other crew members' names.
