Toilet Etiquette Question. If you leave the lid open, will your pet(s)
drink out of the bowl, or actually use it for it's intended purpose??

Cats or Dogs (or any other pet).

Our cats have been known to drink out of the commode.

1. My cats have been known to JUMP in it.
When they were small...once after I had umm used it before I could flush..kitty came tearing in and SPLASH! Needless to say it was shower time for both of us after that.
I make sure my lids ALWAYS are shut now. x(

5. Literally, a difference between male ruffians and female ladies
Edited on Tue Feb-03-09 01:21 PM by UTUSN
My now deceased male dog was well behaved and just naturally intelligent and comprehending. But he was also rough and tumble, and didn't brook foolishness, would cut to the chase. If his water dish (infrequently) ran dry, he didn't bother to signal for a re-fill. He would go drink over there, like, no big deal (to him). He would also lick feet. (Now I'm disgusting myself, even.)

His mate was a real lady. If the water bowl was dry, she would pick it up in her mouth and THROW it on the floor with a clatter, repeatedly. And we would LEAP to do her bidding. And it would have been unTHINKable to her to lick feet.

I'm in the unfortunate position of having to put the lid down even though I don't live with a woman anymore! Bummer....

8. Sonia?!?? A bowl-drinker??
:D

Yes, many of ours will drink from the terlet if the lid is left open. I don't mind, except when the kitty feet get wet and then they leave little wet paw prints all over, and I don't notice until I sit down. x(

9. I've always made it a point to put just the seat down unless there are pets, then I'll close it up.
Mostly because I've never had pets of my own, so I don't know whether other people's will get into it or not.

11. my dog taught me to close the lid
there is nothing like lying in bed late at night, hearing your dog slurp at the toilet bowl, and realizing his next stop is to lick your face

14. One of my two dog's would drink out of it if she could...
....fortunately for both of us, I keep the lid down. I have this odd desire to know where her tongue has NOT been when she gives me a big ol' wet one on my ear or cheek, something both dogs do when I get my head too close, not that I mind so much because as I said before, I keep lid down!

15. I always close the lid
Ever since I read about how the water from the toilet sprays all over the bathroom during the flush, I close it before I push down the handle.

However, there have been several times where I'll be doing others things before I close the lid and more than one of my kitties have found out the hard way that jumping into the bowl is not fun adventure they imagined before they took the plunge.

Letting it mellow is NOT an option in this house. At least not without closing the lid. x(

17. One of my dogs will drink if the lid is up, the other won't.
The one who will is the same dog who jumps into the bathtub to lick the spout.

19. One cat will
Our resident airhead. Water bowl? toilet bowl? What's the diff?

This one (although she doesn't usually look drugged like this--blame it on the woodstove):

I don't think the other two have even ventured into the bathroom in all their years with us.

20. My dog prefers the toilet to his water dish.
I make sure his water dish always has fresh, clean water in it but he would rather drink from the toilet.

He also loves to drink from the bathtub when I am filling it up for my children's baths.
