Anyone who took math in the 70's - I'm trying to find an educational film
The movie was about fractions and might have been called something like "The Mysterious Number". It was animated.

It was based in the town of whole numbers and the sheriff, something like 796, wasn't very busy because nobody could steal anything and get away with it. If Three stole something, he would take three of them. There was no crime.

One day, only part of a pie was missing. Something else had part of it stolen later, so the sheriff set a trap. When the thief came again, he chased him into a strange land, caught up to him and pulled off his cloak and recoiled in terror - it was a little 2 over a little 3. He composed himself and continued the chase, passing right by a little 4 over a little 6. There were all kinds of strange creatures like this.

Eventually, they figure out that even whole numbers can become fractions, like a 9 over a 3.

I loved that movie and only saw it twice but I haven't been able to locate any reference to it anywhere in libraries or on the Internet and I've been looking for years now.

If anyone has any leads, please let me know.

It would have been shown in class about the same time as "The Point" (Oblio and Arrow - "Me and my Arrow") and "The Phantom Toll Booth".

1. Please do try archive.org, they have lots and lots of educational videos.
I think I remember the one you mention from my school daze.

4. I'm vaguely aware that "Lost" is a tv show, but I turned off the tube in 1982.
Sorry, the reference is "lost" on me ;}

Can't help identify it, however.

8. This sounds vaguely familiar, ...
... but I didn't remember quite as much as you. If you do find it, please post about it.
