Quick resume question.
If you have a high gpa and an honors designation, do you list one or other, or both?

The looking-for-work thing is getting old. I need some advice that doesn't come from my mom and isn't "you should include a picture of yourself with your resume!"

:banghead:

1. I'd say both.
You should include a picture of you that...no, I'm behaving today. Nevermind.

14. Really?
flvegan, LLC Company Corporation Inc. might be hiring. I need someone in a bikini...

I'm kidding. I don't mean to make light of your job search. I'm sure you'll nail the resume and get whatever job you're looking for. Good luck!

2. I've always been complimented by interviewers on my resume. Most
definitely include your (high) gpa and honors designation. I didn't use the pic with it because the tech wasn't available to me at the time. I like the idea though, interviewers like to have as much info as possible before they're sure to pick up the phone and call you. Much luck to you.

8. Both? O.k.
I dropped the gpa and just left the honors designation, figuring it was notable enough, but I wasn't sure what was standard ops.

Thanks!

22. it's been so long since I'm out of grad school and undergrad that I don't

remember.

When you are just getting out of college, it probably doesn't hurt to put both? I think a lot of the new-fangled internet- savvy multi-media resumes have all kinds of things on em (such as pics, DVD, colors, spreadsheets? etc) that I would probably have no idea how to do one now.

Good luck on your search, btw. When I was hiring folks in one of my positions, I don't think I would have paid much attention to the whole GPA, grade thing, generally, but more to life experience, work experience and overall coursework. Also make sure there aren't typos.

Go get em, lady!

3. I'm not sure but I'll offer an opinion that will kick this
I would list the honors designation but I wouldn't the GPA. Hopefully some of our HR people will answer this. :hi:

5. That's what I would do.
The honors designation implies a high GPA, and I'm not sure the actual GPA matters.

It's been so long since I was in school (25 years since high school graduation and 17 years since any other graduation) that I don't bother to put anything except the name of the school, year of graduation, and area of study.

13. List both
other things I have found helpful in my own job search. Don't use cover letters from templates or books or online resources. Write your letter specifically for the job, saying in your own words why you would be best.

I also went to a professional resume writer. He did a really good job and my resume looked much better after he was through with it. He wasn't that expensive (I think it was less than a $100)

16. My $0.02.....
If you're fresh out of school, list both- especially if you don't have much or any job experience.

If you've been in your field for some time (rough estimate- maybe 5 years or so) and have a good bit of experience, I'd just list the honors designation.

I've received resumes with pictures as recently as last year. I don't know why people would think that's a good idea.

24. College. I'm 31.
I have little work experience (except a recent internship)due to the fact that I spent most of my 20's at home raising kids.

26. it all depends on the context. you may need to emphasize different
attributes, depending on the job.

PM with you private email if you would like me to take a look at your resume.

I love to help people with their resumes, but I also spent home at time with kids, so I know the challenges you are facing to get back in.

25. Nobody cares about your high school GPA if you're over 25
I've served on hiring committee's, and hired many people for my own consulting firm, so I know what I'm speaking of.

If you're over 25, high school items should only be listed if they were an actual AWARD. Nobody cares if you were on the football team and had a decent GPA. An actual Honors award is a bit different and should be noted though.

College accomlishments are a bit trickier. If you're new to the job market and fresh out of college, any GPA over 3.5 should be listed, and ALL awards should be listed. If you are an older worker with plenty of experience to reference, a gpa should only be listed if you had a 4.0. Again, all actual awards should be listed.

27. If you graduated with honors, just put the honors. If you didn't...
then don't mention any of it, of course. :)
