Somewhere tonight, there is a deliveryman scrubbing out his underwear.
I had my new dryer delivered today. They were supposed to call before they got here, and I made it clear why. So, my "afternoon delivery" arrives at 11am. I didn't hear the truck pull up, as I was tending to dogs in the back.

I had my windows open so I did hear my front gate open, having come back to the front of the house. Now, I have "Beware of Dogs" signs all over the place. I think that maybe using the phone or a beep of the horn would be a good idea. I've had everyone from cops to mailmen come to my gate and not open it.

ANYway, I hear the gate open and I panic and run for the door. Why? Because one of my largest canine females was out front. Not just one of my largest, the scariest looking dog I've ever put through my rescue and one of the most protective. She's kind of an exotic breed not known for barking warnings. She must've heard the gate too, because she came out from the side of the house. 100 lbs of running, growling scary-ass pit-bull looking dog. When I hit my front door and got it open, I saw a very "ample" fellow make his best attempt to hurdle my chain link fence.

She stopped at the closed gate and sat down, quite satisfied with herself. His delivery partner about fell out of the truck laughing at him. Turns out the partner, oddly enough, had a tattoo of the very same breed on his arm, having had one for a number of years.

After proper introductions, she got bellyrubs and I got my dryer.

3. I have a gate where getting to my front door is hard. I have
a beware of dog sign up, yet people still come throught the gate and to my door. By the time I get out there, they are always trying to run out the gate quickly (because the dogs are now on their ass). It doesn't matter as much now as it did when my Hutch was still here. He tolerated no strangers. They had to be introduced first. As long as I was fine with them, then so was he. He was my protector. It still kills me that he got run over. My Hank and Lolly will warn me when someone is here, but they aren't near as fierce as my Hutch. x(

5. Especially since I was very specific WHY they needed to call first.

6. Since they can't read either instructions or your signs,
maybe a picture sign of a snarling dog with blood dripping from its mouth would get the message across.
