Pierce and Buchanan especially are really who I'd pick on for the dubious title of worst.

But the point is that it is a question we should examine. What are the standards we set when coming to such judgments? Different standards are, in fact, why some believe Jackson to have been among the worst while others place him among the best.

Speaking of Pierce, have you ever seen Robert Wuhl's _Assume the Position_ part two?

I don't know if the lineage is true or not, but he claims that Barbara Bush is a direct descendant of Pierce, suggesting a genetic inheritance of extreme incompetence.
