Black Albert & Tsjeeses On Tap!

De Struise Night
Thurs, Jan. 15th @ 8 p.m.
Enjoy Two Rare Brews from One of Belgium's Finest Brewers

This year looks to be quite special when it comes to rare and hard-to-find beers. Kicking off the year is a special evening celebrating one of Belgium's finest breweries. Ranked as the best brewery in the world for 2008 by Rate Beer, De Struise is brewed in very small batches and is imported in extremely limited quantities.

On Thursday, January 15th, we will be tapping two of the brewery's best beers. "Black Albert" is a 13% ABV Russian Imperial Stout that ranks right up there with other highly regarded RIP's like Surly Darkness and Three Floyds Dark Lord. It pours pitch black, thick and viscous, and is best sipped slowly. As it warms, it opens up with sweet, roasty, chocolaty flavors that are simply sublime. It's a good thing this stuff ain't cheap, because at 13%, one could get in a lot of trouble. The second brew we'll be tapping is "Tsjeeses", a 10% Belgian Strong Pale Ale that's a winter seasonal, and nearly impossible to find on tap Stateside. A complex, fruity, spicy brew with a bold nose of wild Belgian yeast.

Both of these brews will be available in a very limited quantity, so be sure to make room in your schedule to stop by and enjoy some of the best beer on Earth.

Tapping January 15th, 2009:
De Struise Black Albert (Russian Imperial Stout, 13%)
De Struise Tsjeeses (Belgian Strong Winter Pale Ale, 10%)

Ok, here's the nitty-gritty...
- We'll be tapping "Black Albert" at 8 p.m. on January 15th.
- "Tsjeeses" will be available starting around 5 p.m. on January 15th.
- No reservations accepted for the Pub Room on 1/15/09.
- Parking might be a bit tight, so please carpool of possible.
- Additional parking available on the West side of Devon Ave, at DuPage Sew & Vac two doors east and at Midas across Ogden Avenue.

I know it's a Thursday night but the place has great food and the beer is incredible!!!

If you go look for me in an Obama shirt!

Thanks, Scuba

2. Review - Fat Albert
Well, I must admit that the event at the Bavarian Lodge was a success.

Several of the worlds highest rated brews were tried. These include Fat Albert, a brew which I would give an "A" to after trying several times, Surley Smoke, TJeesus, which went straight to my heart, and the other one I forget what it is called...

No other DU members made themselves know to me, but the glares I got from the folks at the Bavarian Lodge, deep in the heart of DuPage County, the most Republican County of Illinois, made it worth the price of admission. That is seeing that I had the best Obama shirt on imaginable. Even the head of the brew staff noted my VERY Pro Obama shirt! It had a huge Obama pic on it and on the back it said "A NEW HOPE" "I WAS THERE WHEN CHANGE HAPPEN AT GRANT PARK NOV. 4TH 2008"

This is one of the rarest Obama shirts on the planet, and believe me, my great great grandkids, if I am so lucky to have them, will regard it with pride.

With a great happiness,
Scuba

4. There was quite a bit of talk amongs the beer savvy about..
your state, California. Several folks had gone on a west coast micro brew tour, and they said it was great. My wife and I did a Napa Sonoma trip a couple of summers ago and included a trip to the Gilmore Garlic Festival. They served up some garlic ice cream that was really good!

In addition I recommend Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and Surly Darkness.

Best,
Scuba
