Originally, in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda talked like that when he was playing the stooge for the unsuspecting Luke. Once Luke finally figures out he's Yoda, Yoda talks in perfectly grammatically correct English. Then in the prequels he's back to talking stupidly, for no good reason.
