The film Ju-On...worth watching?
I love the Japanese original of The Ring (Ringu), so I suppose the Japanese version of The Grudge will also be a good watch.

What say you, DU?

2. Hi you!
:hi:

It's free OnDemand, and we watched Hostel last night, and I'd like a change of pace. Hostel bored me. Yawn.

:)

:scared:

I HATED Hostel! I thought it was awful! I normally don't get bugged out by horror movies but that one was too over-the-top for me. I hid in my sweatshirt for the last 30 mins. or so of that movie. I didn't care for it at all. :scared: :wimp:

5. See, I'm a huge gore fan, and I expected more!
I didn't even blink during the eyeball scene. That should tell you something. I guess it just didn't live up to the hype for me.

Saw and Saw II on the other hand, gross me out a bit.

Then again, I'm a big fan of classic Italian horror, which can be high on the gore scale. :D

7. The Saws were cool.
I guess it was because they were more mind-fuck movies, to me anyway.

The eyeball scene. :puke:

4. Well it can't be any worse than The Grudge.
:P

I dunno, I'd probably check it out. If you want some good Asian horror though, check out Kairo (the original version of Pulse).

6. Oh, I know! I haven't even seen The Grudge, b/c
I assumed it would suck as bad as The Ring. :P

But, Ju-On 1 and 2 are free on Comcast this month, so I think I'll give it a shot.

And thanks! I will check that one out.

I was so hoping you'd check in on this thread. :hi:

8. I actually kinda enjoyed The Ring, save for the lameness of the actual video...
Edited on Fri Jan-09-09 06:59 PM by primate1
Plus the large portion of the plot ripped off from The Changeling, but it was entertaining and fairly creepy. The Grudge was just annoying, haha. Hopefully the Japanese versin is better, haha.

I havea few other recommendations if you want, but Kairo is one of my favourites.

11. Check out Takashi Miike's stuff...
Gozu is my favourite of his work. Also, he did a short film for the anthology Three Extremes called "Box" which is great. (There are two other films in Three Extremes which would probalby tickle your fancy also.) And if you like gore, ichi the Killer is a good bet.

And technically it wasn't an insult and it wasn't about ABBA, so I guess you're off the hook.

36. My wife made a great observation about one part in particular
When Laura has the "waking nightmare" in which Annie is blood-soaked and lying beside her, Laura doesn't scream until she looks a second time and Annie is gone. WTF?!? Who the hell screams when the corpse-vision goes away?!?!

I love that moment--it's such a weird inversion of expectation that you can't help being rattled by it.

10. Sort of.
It's better, but enough with the spooky kid shit already. Break it up, let's have a spooky lemur or something. Every damn director and his brother is including the creepy, walking funny, pale faced, beady eyed spooky kid now. We get it...kids are creepy. I knew that anyways, dumbasses!

Whew, needed to get that off my chest. :)

So anyways, yeah, the movie is ok, and better than the remake, but not great. Watch Oldboy instead...it's not really scary but it is fucking fucked.

12. It's worth checking out
There are a few story variations between all of the Japanese and American versions of Ju-On, Ju-On 2, Grudge and Grudge 2.
Shimizu tends to mix it a little so it won't go stale too soon.
