Poll question: Satellite or Comcast? I would like your opinions Lounge...
Since we here have come to the agreement that Comcast ( suck-ass ) has already cut three channels and we are STILL paying the same amount of money per month with their internet package...Direct T.V seems like a viable alternative ( I had them years ago..loved them, and no complaints.

I just don't want the switch to be a complicated one, as we have had this service here for the past four years...lately, it just plain SUCKS.

2. How about another alternative: Dish Network? Oh and more questions...
Now I don't have them, and I'm in the same boat - considering a change between Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, Dish & maybe just screwing it altogether and investing in a good outdoor antenna.

My question is what do you want for your media? What TV do you watch? How many TVs? Do you need a DVR? How about HD? What Internet access do you need? And yes, I'm going to throw in Phone into there too. Do you have a cell phone? What's most important? Price? Service? Do you need an absolute guaranteed 100% 911 service, or can you chance a Vonage-type service and cell phone combination as a backup?

There's way too many variances, packages and things to consider here, and I don't want to give you a simple basic recommendation without knowing a little more background.

If you're just having two TVs, want a reasonable selection of channels at a good price, and don't need HD but do want a DVR then $50/month plus taxes is what Dish is offering. Add HD for $10/month. This isn't the introductory price, it's the "regular price". DirecTV for the same two TVs, with DVR will do you for $45 a month for the first 12 months, going up to $67.98/month afterwards. Dish and DirecTV seem to require 24 month contracts, but you can get out of Dish's if you pay more upfront. Also the hardware for Dish and DirecTV are different; I like the idea of Dish Networks, because one box controls two TVs (so in essence you have a DVR on both TVs and if you set up recording of one show in one room you can watch it in the other.) If you want two DVRs with DirecTV, you'll need two boxes - more cost.

It's an awful lot of swings and roundabouts too.

Mark.

3. We have had DirecTV for two years with no problems.
one of our boxes has the DVR. We also have a TiVo on the upstairs TV.

I have only had one outage due to weather. It was raining at like an inch per half hour (really heavy rain) and it only cut intermittently during that storm.

4. I just downgraded to rabbit ears.
Comcast was hellaciously expensive, and I decided to go with Qwest's new high-speed VDSL service that just became available in my area.

Faster than Comcast, and I decided there wasn't enough worth watching on cable to justify that monthly bill.

My total bill is decently smaller now.

5. I've had DirecTV since it came out.
And while I cannot say that I've never had a service interruption due to weather I can say that it has to be really intense weather such as a major thunder or snow storm. A regular heavy rain or snow does nothing to bother the signal. Comcast are assholes.
