Help me figure out what my boss is up to.
We have a deadline at work soon, and he said that he didn't want people working the weekend alone, that if people are going to work the weekend, then we are all going to work the weekend.

I could see the teamwork angle, but I really don't care if I'm the only person who works the weekend. I just wanna get my work done. And not have everyone mad at me for pulling them into this too. My boss isn't very manipulative, or at least not skilfully so. So what's he up to, if anything?

3. I forgot to mention: I don't make overtime.
I'm on salary and I'm generally OK with working overtime to meet a deadline.

4. I wonder if there is/was a security issue?
I hope not.

7. Not really.
It's not a dangerous workplace, just an office building. If I was going to steal anything, it would be off the computers, and I can do that during work hours.

2. My company has a rule that at least one supervisor has to be on site...
...anytime employees are working.

Now about the ALL thing, maybe he just doesn't want any resentment building over who worked more than whom.

6. I can see that.
There was one time where I worked really hard so that I could have a particular weekend off, and got my work done early, and my boss (a different one that time) told me that I should still come "for moral support". I told her it felt like I was being punished for meeting the deadline. What about my moral support?!

5. He's afraid that one of your colleagues is boning his wife, and wants to keep
you all in sight. Or, he's boning one of your colleagues and wants to have witnesses for the one time when his "working late at the office" line is actually true...

8. Perhaps he wants to get the project done as quickly as possible
without inspiring panic.
