...driving along a narrow residential street on trash day at about 25 mph a pigeon hopped out from behind a trash can and my front bumper hit him. Being about 2 blocks from home I rushed home and got some bags and gloves to move and dispose of the pigeon. When I got back there about 2 minutes later the pigeon was still alive obviously nearing death. I was going to move it out of the road since there was nothing that could be done for it. I stood there about 10-15 seconds thinking about how I was going to do this and a fucking SUV drives past with a white compact car trailing it. Splat goes pigeon. Fuck. Bagged it and put it in the plastic bin with a note on top. The damn bird was in the middle of the road. I don't know how the fuck the SUV didn't see me standing there with my car askew and the bird visible.

You haven't lived until you've driven over an armadillo in the middle of the night. All the little bastids need to do is just hunker down and let you pass, but nooooooo. . . You startle them and the sproing three feet straight up. Yeah, it's great fun when you're just a rowdy bunch of cub scouts and land a pinecone on one in the woods, but I still have nightmares about that. POW. FL is truly the roadkill capital of the world, amongst all its other lacking charms.

I did my duty as a scout leader for a decade. Trust me--those suckers can HOP when beset by a group of 9-year-olds.

As for my unfortunate encounter, all he had to do was bash himself into my drive train. Even with Tool blasting, I felt the impact like the bottom was coming out of my floor. If only I had been driving my old VW Beetle instead of a PT Cruiser, he would have simply bounded through the rust and into the passenger seat.
