Pardon me while I go on and on about my wife's fabulous skills
Edited on Mon Jan-05-09 04:48 PM by Orrex
She's a painter, and a damn good one. She has a particular knack for portraiture, and lately she's been selling her wares through her Etsy site.

Naturally I encourage anyone with loose cash to invest heavily in the work of this fine artist, but in the meantime I offer these recent samples of her work:

Eraserhead painting, acrylic on upcycled wooden box

Snake charmer, acrylic on paperboard, inspired by vintage photographs and cabinet cards

Much more at her Flickr link

Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks for looking!

2. Wow, impressive!
I'm always jealous of folks with an artistic talent.

3. Me, too. Given twenty minutes or so, I could figure out which end of the brush to use.
But that's about it...

Thanks for chiming in!

5. I like the oval-shaped portraits...
I've always found that sort of image to be mildly-creepy (it has to do with the near-ubiquitous presence of such portraits in haunted house and gothic horror movies. I'm certain I'm not alone in this) and she manages to capture that. The content itself isn't creepy, graphic or upsetting at all...and yet the effect is disconcerting, especially since many of those images are in B&W as are the classic films of the genre.

9. That's a cool observation!
She's done several pieces in that format, and she definitely likes to inject a certain element of the creepy into her works, as appropriate.

Someone commissioned a work from her a few months ago, a portrait of a woman and her boyfriend, both depicted as zombies. If that doesn't say "I Love You," then I don't know what does.

10. Something that impresses me about her technique
is that she works surprisingly quickly. I've seen her churn out full portraits in the space of day, when it would take me the rest of my natural life to accomplish the same, and then some.

Thanks for your feedback!

And I'll have you know that I painted our whole living room without incident, and there were no numbers anywhere on the walls.

16. We're about an hour north of the city, so that kind of thing is hard to set up
She had a table at ZombieFest 2008 in Monroeville, and she'll likely have one again next year. Also, she was supposed to have a shared show at the Zombo Gallery last spring, but the other artist in the show had to pull out.

We're still trying to figure out the best way to market her.

Thanks for looking, and thanks for the input!

20. I love Zombo! It's my fave radio show on RCT. I haven't been to the gallery
though.

For some reason, I thought you were closer. Sorry. There are so many places in the city that exhibit good work, I would think she wouldn't have any trouble.

Good luck to her!

But your wife is very talented artistically!

The other thing is none of my business, really. :)

19. The tantalizing phrasing is deliberate, of course!
Nothing draws the gawkers like a little sex.

Thanks for the feedback--I'll pass your kind words onto her!
