Hail to the Theif...
the radiohead CD... i picked this up partly cause the title caught my eye, and ive heard good things about radiohead... thier obscurity, thier non-conforming style ect. but damn, ive never heard a cd that flowed so well from song to song. i just thought id share my ignorance with everyone lol. was anyone else surprised by it? i know its been out quite awhile... but still.

1. Dude, you've heard Kid A, right?
Hail to the Thief was good, but Kid A is a brilliant piece of work.

5. I tend to prefer...
...heavier stuff too, but Radiohead are incredible. Check out "Amnesiac." "OK Computer" and "The Bends" are excellent, too. Antiwarrior already pointed out "Kid A" so I'll just warn you at this point to avoid "Pablo Honey" like leprosy. Most Britpop is weak crap, but when it's done right -- damn! And Radiohead do it right. They bring the goods live, too.

6. Yeah
avoid Pablo Honey like the plague. OK Computer is great too, but I've never gotten as much into The Bends as some people I know.

Incidentally, The Bends has my favorite song by Radiohead, Street Spirit (Fade Out), so it's not exactly a total waste :D.

3. All is forgiven, my son.
Hail to the Thief is a very solid record.

I got into Radiohead when they played watered-down IDM (Kid A and Amnesiac and I Might Be Wrong). They still have distinct electronica elements in their stuff, so I still enjoy the hell out of it.

4. It really is great.
I don't think they've admitted where the title originated or how the lyric fits into the song. It's probably multifaceted. Obviously, it has the Bush component, but there's also the fact that their last three albums were leaked on Napster and Kazaa, which prompted them to put this one on mtv dot com for free download.

I really love this album. It has a sense of "coolness" that Kid A/Amnesiac lacked. Of course, all of the pretentiousness ("my band is better than yours") kind of sound is there.

I don't know if there's a real connection, but E. E. Cummings had a collection of poems titled "is 5", where in the preface, he has a roundabout way of saying that people periodically let the rulers convince them that 2 and 2 is 5.
