Just did a "speed dating" event tonight
And you know what? I had a really great time! I had never done anything like that before, and it was a really good way to meet people. Especially for 40-ish folks like myself, it was nice to have so many other similarly aged women in one place to talk to. The main problem I had was that the 6-minute time span we had for each "interview" was way too short. But after the event (which was held at a restaurant) I stayed with two of girls and had dinner and we had lots of fun. Not bad!

5. Well, a "dinner threesome"
if that's even a real thing. But it was nice. So today I'm supposed to find out if I got any "matches" -- that is, for the women I indicated I wanted to meet again, if any of them want to meet me. Now I need a "fingers crossed" smiley.

4. I've thought about doing it
I'd have to be in a particular frame of mind for that to work though. It can often take me 6 minutes just to say "Hi". LOL! I'm not a mental speed demon.

Glad you had a good time.

9. It's like musical chairs
AS I understand it. You sit down at a table with a women or guy and you talk for 6 minutes and then DING time to move to the next table.

You can meet more people that way and make sure they aren't REALLY strange. It is a lot of first impression stuff plus a little more. In an hour you "meet" 10 people.

3 words:
Parents. Without. Partners.

Should change their name to "GRANDparents Without Partners"....

10. I did a thing like that several years ago
It was called Date Bait--it started on a small scale, for gay men in general, but become very popular and branched out into Date Bait socials for lesbians, over30s, professionals, even straights! I basically went to support a friend who was going, but because there were a limited number of seats in the room and we weren't together in the line, I got in but he didn't! I still had a good time, even though I can be painfully shy. The "mingling exercise" was to meet as many of the other people as possible within the time allowed and find one thing in common with each. Frankly, there were some I had absolutely nothing in common with. But I did wind up with a match--a guy I said I'd like to see again who also wanted to see me again. That particular acquaintanceship went nowhere, but I have good memories of the event.

This weekend I'm going to another thing event for single gay men. Would you kind folks like a report on it when I'm done?

11. I've thought of trying it, but...
...wondered if it was a waste of time. So what sort of folk attend? Desperate Quasimodo types, or normal folk.
