Polyester sportcoats
I love wearing sportcoats, but all those in affordable price ranges are made with polyester. Since I will sweat in them during the summer, is there any way to make them more bearable? (e.g. removing the lining?)

Or should I pony up the dough and find cotton coats of compatible color?

1. There is such a thing called summer weight wool
It is without a doubt the most comfortable of all of them.

3. herringbone just refers to the weave
it's the fiber that makes the difference. Summer weight wool is the way to go :hi:

8. You're thinking of Harris Tweed, I think,
and it's not the same thing as herringbone, which is a weave. Harris Tweed is a very specific, high-end cloth, which may or not be herringbone.

4. Natural Fabrics - Cotton, Silk & Worsted Wool (Tropical Weight) All "Breathe"
Where polyester & poly blend materials, not so much. The trade-off is polyester is wrinkle resistant. Tropical weight wool is where the fibers are combed rather than "flanneled" (brushed). You can also find trop-weight wool/poly blends that are half-lined (the lining only comes half-way down the back) that are both light & wrinkle resistant. Dark colors also heat faster in the daytime. Cotton sportcoats look like you slept in them after a couple hours, where silk & wool coats will wrinkle some, but the wrinkles will hang out between wearings, saving on dry cleaning (unless you have sweated through them anyway).

Sportcoats and blazers, as kind of an ironic everyday dress item. You might be able to find some pretty nice ones online under $200, not at all the traditional blue polyester and in a variety of patterns and fabrics and colors, at someplace like http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/category.jsp?popId=MENS&navAction=poppushpush&isSortBy=true&navCount=27&pushId=MENS_APPAREL&id=M_APP_OUTERWEAR_BLAZERS">Urban Outfitters or the online store of any fashion designer or store catering to that population. Buy a size larger and have it altered, they come off-the-hanger cut for a generic build. (Actually I think they size them for alt. rock frontmen with 28" waists who weigh 90 lbs. :()

Also, were you looking for a Victorian tailcoat in the Dr. Who mode? Someone was asking the other day and someone else found one a few days later...but nobody could remember who was asking. Anyways there's an obvious thread with a link to a really nice one somewhere in the past 3 or 4 days. I'll see if I can find it. Edit: http://tinyurl.com/tailcoat2
