2. What kind of soup?
I use peppercorns in my bouquet garni so I wouldn't have even noticed if there were peppercorns in my soup.

3. No but I just spilled a whole tumbler full of gin and vermouth.
Worst of all I lost four olives that had been soaking in the gin all night.

Now I have to start all over again. :(

5. rinse them off...
they're still good once you get the dog-hair, dirt and schmutz off them. The alcohol will kill any bacteria. Heck, you can use Gilbey's to field-sanitize a wound.
