New Year's Eve is my least favorite holiday.
I never have any exciting plans, and when I do, I never really feel like going. It's cold and ugly outside.

Who else hates this stupid boring meaningless holiday?

1. I sure do
It's almost 11 here, and I'm still at home. I may go over to a friend's house... it was fun for a few years when I was a teenager and maybe into my early 20's, but that was it. I don't like parties. I don't like drunks. Yeah, not a great holiday.

3. It's way overblown
Much like Christmas, We usually have a low keyed meal with friends. I love the sentiments of the song "New Year" by Death Cab for Cutie. Have you ever heard it?

5. Actually it's called "The New Year"
Here is the lyric:

so this is the new year.
and i don't feel any different.
the clanking of crystal
explosions off in the distance (in the distance).

so this is the new year
and I have no resolutions
for self assigned penance
for problems with easy solutions

so everybody put your best suit or dress on
let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
as thirty dialogues bleed into one

i wish the world was flat like the old days
then i could travel just by folding a map
no more airplanes, or speedtrains, or freeways
there'd be no distance that can hold us back.

there'd be no distance that could hold us back (x2)

so this is the new year (x4)

6. Halloween and St. Patrick's Day are worthless, boring excuses of holidays.
Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 05:53 PM by madinmaryland
The first is a waste of time, and for the second, I'm neither Catholic or Irish.

BORING!!!

On edit to add Valentines Day. Just a marketing gimmick to get people to buy shit they don't need.

26. St. Patrick's Day taught me to be exceedingly wary regarding drinking anything green.
I am grateful for that much (unless of course said green drinks only appear on St. Patrick's Day, in which case, fuck St. Patrick's Day).

7. It is not my favorite
When I was younger, I enjoyed it. Went to some very fun & wild parties. Then, when I was in college, a guy I knew was killed on New Year's Eve by a drunk driver (he was only 18 years old). A couple of years after that, another man I knew (who had five children) was killed by a drunk driver on New Year's Eve. After that, it just didn't seem fun to me...to watch people drink and then get into their cars every December 31st. So I very rarely go out on this night. And I know, with certainty, there will be more people killed by drunks on this night...just as every New Year's Eve.

Man... that sounded really depressing and preachy, didn't it? Sorry.

8. That's why they call it "Amateur Night"
People who rarely drink get hammered out of their gourds. I wouldn't get into a car on New Years Eve if you paid me. Detroit has enough shitty drivers on a normal night.

14. And yet, it's *MY* favorite!1 Let me explain:
Xmas is so FULL of theology and LASTS *so* long, so when it's over it's such a fucking RELIEF!1

And when New Years comes around, it's FAST and NON-theological, and SHARED by people the world over, and then it's OVER!1

So, happy new year's to YOU!1 G'bye!1
