I didn't even recognize him at first but he absolutely stunned me in his part of the studio head. They made him bald with a big old gut on him. Not sure how they'll show a clip at the Golden Globes (he was nominated for that part) since every other word he said was a curse word or something vile and offensive.

1. I think Tom Cruise is a good actor who was bad at first, then became great, then lost his way.
His early work did not impress me, but I woke up when I saw "The Color of Money." It was like a brick hit me in the head and I thought, "This guy can act after all." And (let's forget "Days of Thunder") he continued to act through Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut." Then something happened, for sure. But I won't give up on him entirely.

After all, his mentor was Paul Newman. Even Paul had his disasters.

2. DiCaprio is another one that looked like a complete disaster at first but
really showed the world he could do serious work.

14. Not to mention...
"Cockburn, from now on my fist is going to be so far up your shithole that every time you have a thought, it's gonna have to tiptoe past my wedding ring!"

I mean, really.

"I couldn't have done it without you."
"Really?"
"No, dickhead. Of course I could. A nutless monkey could do your job. Now, go get drunk and take credit at all the parties. "
"I wouldn't do that."
"Ah... joking."
"Ah, there he is! Funny. You're a funny guy."
"Yeah. But seriously, a nutless monkey could do your job."

4. I didn't recognize him either
The closing credits were a "WTF? You're kidding!" moment for me.

And Robert Downey Jr. was phenomenal. Too bad it was such a lightweight movie, because that was an Oscar worthy performance.

5. I spent the entire movie trying to figure out who that was!
Then I saw the credits and was like NO WAY and had to go back and look at it again.

He really did steal the movie.

6. Johnny Depp and Robert Downey, Jr. can run circles around Cruise and Pittl
IMHO, anyway.

Google both Depp and Downey's body of work...and then check out Super Star Cruise. How old is Cruise, anyway? He's till appealing to the Teenies?

12. His dancing, both in the film and over closing credits, is the best thing in the movie.
Aside from the TiVo, of course.

16. I totally forgot he could dance
I never saw his teen flicks, so I have an excuse. :P

The dancing is made even funnier by the freakishly large hands they gave him to go with the fat suit.

17. Alright ...

I'll agree with that one.

I had to cue it up. I honestly did not realize that was him.

Given that one of my criteria in criticizing Cruise's acting is that I'm generally far too aware it's Tom Cruise as opposed to the character he's playing, I must stand corrected at least here. That part was very well done.

I just don't like him as a person.

Kinda like Charlton Heston...or Ted Nugent.

20. You're right about that.
The friend I watched it with didn't even believe it was Tom Cruise. I only knew because I recognized his voice. He was quite good, and that whole movie was pretty fecking funny.
