Help me: It's snowing here. AGAIN!
We live in a small town thirty miles outside of Seattle, and in the Cascade foothills. We have been essentially housebound since December 11th. (Our town is built into a hillside, we live at the top of another hill, and the roads here are a sheet of ice due to extreme cold as well.) There were seventeen inches of snow on the ground two days ago; we've had two snowstorms since. I'm sure we're well over 20" as I write.

It is snowing. AGAIN! Dear God, make it stop! What did we do to deserve this? They kept saying that it was going to thaw. I want to be a weather person when I grow up. They get paid a ton of money, and they're always WRONG!

AAArrrGHHHHHHH! More snow? :scared:
Julie

p.s. The best part of all this? The family Christmas. It's now Saturday. I kept telling them it would be best to wait till January 3rd, but nooooo, they want to come out here on Saturday. I'm not sure they're going to be able to get here in the current conditions, but I did my best.

1. you have my sympathy - we live at the top of a big hill that tends to get icy

but we live in the east where it snows with some frequency and have great town snow removal, salting, etc. So I have never quite had that much snow - except for the blizzard of 93 when no one could get anywhere!

Be patient, safe and warm, and I hope you can all celebrate safely soon!

And Merry Christmas!

It's the first white Christmas I've had that I can remember.

BTW, seasons greetings and happy New Year to all DU-ers.

5. I'm over it, too.
We had to reschedule our family Christmas--it's supposed to be just rain this weekend, so maybe the roads will be clear.

It's 71 in Texas. :wow: Not so much here; I think it's now above freezing. It's very pretty though, but I'm glad I get to go home in a few days. :)

10. I'm just waiting for the snow to melt so I can park in the parking lot again.
As I type this, it started snowing hard again.

It is really pretty though. I am a huge fan of tall trees and mountains, so I am loving it. I just didn't get the snow memo.

12. We had a two-hour power outage early this morning, too
Midnight to a bit after 2 a.m.; I just looked at my husband and started laughing. What else could we do?

I hope the power stays on, you're safe and warm, and you're surrounded by those who love you.

The same to you. So far, the power has stayed on, the snow has stopped, the sun came out, AND the street got plowed. :wow: So things are looking up now. :)

26. Don't worry....
it will get worse.

Maybe this year the winds will blow S-N across the lake instead of W-E and you will get the snow Oswego got last year!

13. I can look out my windows every 5 minutes, and it's doing something
different every time.

Sometimes, it's raining.

Sometimes, it's snowing.

Sometimes, it's a mixture of rain and snow.

Sometimes, there's nothing falling from the sky.

Yeah, this is getting real old.

I hope to God that it all turns to rain in the next day (minus any possible flooding). We're supposed to go to Oregon to have Christmas dinner with my family on Saturday. Just checked the traffic cams in the Vancouver and Portland areas, and the roads there look worse than ours.

14. I'm a little confused
When was the last time we had snow on Christmas Day, anyway? Plus, when was the last time I had over 20" of snow in our front yard?

SeattleGirl, I hope it's all wonderful where you are, and that Saturday is a great day for you.

16. I think it may have been '96, when we had the snow and ice storm.
I think it was around Christmas, because we drove in that crap from here to Eugene. At least the interstate was good, but if you got off that, you took your chances!

It's a quiet day at Casa SeattleGirl. Opened presents this morning, and now it's just veg-out time.

Oh, and my I say, having driven out to your house before (on a nice day), I can imagine what a nightmare it is right now for you two!

32. Don't know about Seattle but
I was snowed in for a week at my daughters house in 2006. November 27th. She lives on a hill in Mount Vernon and you could use her driveway for skiing.

17. It's been raining off and on over here, snowing off and on,
raining AND snowing off an on all day. I kid you not; I could look outside my windows every five minutes, and the weather would be doing something different from the last time I looked out.

20. I'm 20 miles outside of Portland in rural Estacada.
I still have a foot of snow on the ground, have been out here since
December 12. And over the last week, I've been without power and
without cable and Internet. Power came back on yesterday, cable today.

And it's snowing again.

Me and mom are having Christmas on New Year's.

I've been worried about you and everyone in my old
stomping ground.

Remember when I told you that it snowed ONCE in the six years
I lived in Seattle and Bremerton?

You guys are getting hit really hard right now.

To all our Pacific Northwestern DUers,

Stay safe and warm!

27. If I NEVER see another freakin' snowflake in my life, I would be just
fine with that!

I managed to get to my office tonight, so I could turn in my casenotes (which is where my billing comes from, which is what my pay is based on). Once I got out on the freeway it was fine, but slogging through mounds of slushy snow, trying not to fall on compacted snow, and just trying to get the car in and out SUCKS!

:grr:

29. We got up all happy today
No snow!! Then looked out the window :wtf: It snowed last night!!!! :banghead: We went to do some shopping (oh the joys of finding a parking space in unplowed parking lots  ), then on our way home, it started snowing hard AGAIN!! :wtf: Our nice, freshly plowed streets looked worse than they did yesterday. :banghead:

So now it's allegedly above freezing & rain is on its way. Oh joy.

:hi: SG!!
