1. It was high-jacked by the Lounge
To use as our perennial Christmas icon.

You're welcome.

3. The shoe looks so painful,
I wonder how high is the heel on that shoe.

I think the leg was damaged by accident.

The mom did look so sad after the leg lamp was broken, the scene is on right now.

4. I think it was damaged in transit.
Watch the scene when it's delivered: when the crate is first brought into the house you can see it clearly marked 'THIS SIDE UP" at the top, but then they lay it down!

And notice how HUGH the box is for such a little lamp!

The manufacturers must have known it was FRAGEELAY (!) to pack it in so much cushion.

I think the mom has taken enough flack all these years!

Reopen the investigation! Clear Ralphie's Mom!

11. I for one thank and applaud you for such a fitting gift to the Lounge.
:applause: :applause:

We must work out who has the annual honor of posting it each Dec. 25th.

Maybe the winner of the most Duzys that year?

The person who can quote the most lines from the movie without Google?

sumpting, anyhow.

13. How many times
do they say "but you'll shoot your eye out" in the movie?

Whoever can answer that gets to do it.

15. Whoever wants to do it, ya mean...
I would volunteer, but I killed most of the short term memory cells in college, and incipient seniorism is taking care of the rest.
Hoever, I will kick the thread.

5. Upon further review....
I voted for Raphie's Mom broke it on purpose. My reasoning was because when Pop was trying to fix it, she was in the background with a sly grin. One of those evil guilty "I know something you don't know grins"
But as I paid attention in my second viewing, when the delivery guys show up and they bring that massive box in, it has FRAGILE on the side as well as "This End Up"
And they then proceed to practically drop it on it's side on the floor, so maybe it was damaged then.

6. This was my thinking (re: the delivery men) as well.
I think Ralphie's mom has been a scapegoat for far too long.

7. I have another theory ...
... Ralphie blamed his mom with her "you'll shoot your eye out" block and may have unconsciously damaged it in retaliation for it. He didn't forgive her ("look at her the same way") until after the fight, which happened after it was broken.

8. Saw that leg on TV!
I saw about 5 minutes of a show with that leg in it. A family of three had the leg and the husband wanted to put it in the window.

It was some kind of award.

I did not watch the rest of the episode, nor did I notice what show it was. But it was on a couple hours ago.

Anyone know the plot of that show?

16. Actually, if you look at the angle at which the lamp fell...
I was clearly back and to the left of Ralphie's mom... plus, it broke into far to many pieces for a single fall, which all leads to the conclusion:

There was a second lamp breaker!!!
