Rachel Maddow gave her recipe tonight, and here it is:

HOT TODDY

First, find a good glass mug or a coffee mug in which you'd like to serve the drink. Fill up the mug with boiling water, and leave it aside with the hot water in it, so the mug gets nice and warm.

In a separate mixing glass, combine these three ingredients:

1 and a half ounces cognac (or brandy if you're a cheapee like Rachel)
Half an ounce of fresh-squeezed lemon juice
A teaspoon of honey (or if you're very fancy, a half ounce of honey syrup)

Dump the old hot water out of your mug, pour into the mug your yummy boozy ingredients, then top up the boozy yum with more fresh boiling water.

Garnish -- Josey says to take a slice of lemon, and stud it with whole cloves. I've never tried it, but I will. Float the clove-studded slice of lemon on top of the drink... and relax.
