already been used in music before, but you may not have realized it:

This technology should be off patent by now, considering it came out more than 20 years ago.

1. We got that effect in the 70s with quadraphonic sound systems

Of course, there were only about three albums produced with true quadraphonic sound but listening to Firesign Theatre in simulated quad sound was really cool. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon was awesome in simulated quad, too. Especially stoned with all the lights turned off.

2. I had a Quad system

And about 40 or so albums for it, albeit mostly classical stuff my older brother wanted. I did have The Best Of The Doors; listening to "The End" in Quad was pretty incredible..

3. I recvently threw out my quad amp - the rear channels had burned out years ago

But I used the front channels as a straight stereo system amp. I still have the set of big bookcase speakers I bought for it but I think they're going soon.

I always look through pawn shops and the like to see if I can pick one up cheap; no luck so far..
