You know, I still don't trust people who hide their profiles.
Over the years I've found many people who seem to be here just to fan the flames have hidden their DU profiles. It's not a 100% give-away, or anything. But there's just something about people who hide them. Don't trust them like I should.

Maybe I'm just being silly, but it seems to me you don't put anything in your profile you don't want people to read. How hard is that?

1. Yes, I too have always wondering
about the profile hiding thing. But what I'm really curious about is, those that hide gender, location, etc. and then they have a link to their MySpace with full blown pictures, locations, pictures of kids, work stuff, everything under the sun, etc.

Oh well, each to their own.

3. the profiles are important
So often they are helpful in trying to figure out where a poster is coming from, both literally and figuratively.

Literally, for example, in a snowstorm thread about "who's getting pummeled this weekend." Posters tell about the weather and forget to say where they're posting from.

I think the reason posters hide them is because they are distrustful. They are probably paranoid about who might be gathering information on them.

Just a guess.

4. As well you shouldn't
Hidden profiles are tip-offs to freeper trolls.

5. Best profile comment ever
though I was expecting the profile to read "Female, Vladivostok, Rick Warren rules!"

They're spies. Cowards. Oh so mysterious lying fucks.

Just my take on them.

7. I don't understand why it bothers people so much.
Maybe some people value their privacy online.

8. My dear Robb!
I'm with you...

I try hard to not be judgmental, but it's difficult.

My hackles just come up when I see the profile's missing...

9. I used to hide my profile
just because I hate to be pidgeon-holed. I don't like people to assume my position on abortion based on my gender. I don't like them to assume my interest in border-relations based on my geographic location. But I've been here long enough that people know me and all the potential pidgeon-holes anyway. So I went public.

And for the record, I've never been an instigator, flame-fanner, troll, freeper, etc.

10. I've noticed that often
a poster who bashes another state/region/point of view will have a hidden or incomplete profile.

12. I hid my profile for a while while I was on the lam for moonshining
But after a few calls to the right people, it was no longer necessary.
