4. Mine would probably be a lot higher...
... but I have a tendency to stay completely out of the really controversial stuff here. :)

5. Congratulations, :)
This is indeed, a great milestone...and for getting your post count up....apply to become a moderator....trust me, the post count builds fast.

I swear on my superman comic book collection, that during my first mod term, I was posting over 1,000 posts per week...when I started modding back in June/July of 06 I only had 2200 posts or so....

I hope all is going well with you, and yours. :hi:

11. Not quite from the start, but I joined up less than 2 years in.
It was a very different looking site back then, but fundamentally much like it is now. A lot of features have been added over time, though, and also a lot of new topic forums and such added. :)

Congrats to U. I am a newbie and only have 4,999 to catch you.

Since you have been here so long on the board I would like to ask you a question on national security issues. I work as a DOD contractor and like many many out there I have to obtain and keep an active security clearance in order to access classified material. Members of congress and senators are not required to pass an in depth background security investigation as I. It took me 431 days to be cleared due to backlogs in the system.

My own personal opinion is that I think it is a huge double standard that they do not have to go through the same requirements as we do in security clearances. Filling out the SF86 or ESQ 86 form and giving full disclosures of our lives within a determined amount of years. Politicians only have to take an oath of secrecy promising not to spill their guts.

I have had past coversations with many of my coworkers and friends about this and I really don't like the idea of some politician not being cleared except for their word. I do think however that there maybe some that actually do have authentic gov't clearances that had to be filled out on paper. The only thing is I would like to find out who these politicians are. I live only 80 miles from DC and I have actually called the senate security office asking about this and I always get the same answer about commenting on personal sensitive issues. I tried to fill out a FOIA request but they turned it down to. I have thought about calling the washington post also, they have a really crack investigative team.

Do you know of anyway that I could possibly find out about obtaining this information? Thank you in advance.

13. Sorry hardeeboy, I'm no expert on any of that.
I've never been in the military or had to deal with any of that national security stuff.

15. Interesting that you ask that now
I think that being elected by the people means something - and they only have access to the information needed for the oversight responsibilities they have. That role of oversight is mandated by the Constitution. The problem with what you suggest is that there is a real possibility of misusing the information acquired. The other problem is that who determines if you pass?

Oh, and how do we manage?

Well, I was a Mod for a term. That little stint added six thousand posts!

And since I'm retired, and I love being here.....I'm here!

That's how we manage, sweetie!

I'm seriously thinking about signing up for the next moderator term. I believe I would have what it takes to do that job well. :)

Being a Moderator is very cool, and likely the toughest volunteer job you might ever do.

I modded here in the Lounge, and it was very hard. I had to lock my friends' threads, and I found it much harder than I expected.

It is an invaluable experience, still. I have zero regrets!

Petersond was my great friend, helping me at every turn. I could always count on him to help me!

Good luck with it!
