Anyone having computer problems since last Firefox update?
My scrolling arrows and F-11 key aren't working right, or not at all. Every time I click on something, ie: clicking on "Post" in the DU Lounge it opens to a completely new window, and when I click "Post Message", instead of just going forward it will open this action into another window, and so on and so on. Needless to say, Tabs aren't working at all.

Most troubling though, I saved a couple of images to my desktop and when I tried to drag and drop one into a folder all the desktop items highlighted and I couldn't un-highlight any of it unless I logged out. At one point, somehow (and I have no idea how) as I was trying to click on a desktop item all of the items doubled and I had to go to each one individually and delete it. This happened numerous times so I am extremely annoyed . . . and completely stumped. I had several screen freezes yesterday where I had to resort to shutting off the computer the wrong way. I don't do that impulsively, either, I try everything I know to fix it before I resort to an inappropriate shut off.

I'm hoping this is a glitch in the latest Firefox update and not a virus. I also checked several settings and they appear to be unchanged.

1. I had to give up Firefox at version 3.1 (I think that was the version)
My browser was completely messed up. (I have a Mac, BTW.) I'm now using Camino.

8. No, 'fraid not
Mine were more of the trouble loading type (dog slow and got slower over time).

But since v. 3*, it's just been sloooooooooooowww, as if I've lost half of my RAM. x(

10. Yup
Feels like there's something running in the background all the time. I particularly notice it when I type post headers, of all things — it hangs badly.

21. That is strange.
I have an Acer, it's about 4 years old and weird problems surface when the battery gets weaker. What's weird is I rarely use the battery, and anyway, I thought it wouldn't affect the way it runs when it's plugged in, but the computer guy tells me with some laptops it does. It'll be the third time we've had this issue, the first time Acer sent us a battery, the second time we sent it to Acer and they gave it a complete overhaul, but I still don't understand why it gets screwy, or if that's normal, or what. No more Acers for us.

15. If you are having problem with RAM
I have been running FreeMem Pro Version 4.3 for several years, it does an outstanding job of reclaiming RAM as you use your computer. It will automatically reclaim RAM used by programs running in the background, swapping them to virtual memory.

30. I've never heard of FreeMem Pro
I have had issues with RAM which I did associate with Firefox upgrade before the latest version (had to delete firefox and download all over again).

I was using Opera but it was limited. Can't find a browser I like as much as firefox.

4. I don't believe this.
After struggling with this weirdness for two days, right after I spent fifteen minutes detailing the trouble for this thread, suddenly everything is back to normal. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'd still like to know what the hell caused it.

6. I've only had problems with firefox since 3.0 came out.
Not with my PC really. But Firefox 3.x is buggy as hell theres always something I have to open up Safari for. Like embedded videos It always has issues playing embedded videos unless I'm at youtube. I'd switch to another browser but i'm too used to this one and I'm lazy.

17. For piece of mind, I would run one or more of the following
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 04:46 PM by elifino
Spybot-Search & Destroy 1.6.0.30, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.31, AVG Version 8.0.176, or Ad-Aware 7.1.0.11

These are available free on the Internet. Do not run teatimer, included with Spybot, this will slow down your PC.

I can also recommend CCleaner v2.14.765, it is really good at cleaning temp files, cookies, etc. I use it at least once a week to clean my workstation and to clean up the Registry. Use the tools, start up section with care.

It may say at Spybot site, but I'll ask in case you happen by this thread - do I need to disable any protection programs that I currently have?

25. I forgot to tell you the link to a safe site for downloading

www.filehippo.com

I have been using this site for years with no problems.
If you have any trouble updating any of this software, go to your Microsoft Firewall and add an exception. I have found all of these programs to be safe.
I work in our IT Dept., Desktop and Laptop support, with ~2500 workstation all with Internet access, I am painfully aware how easy it is to get bad stuff on your workstation through no fault of your own.

16. My problems were different than yours
but I had to re-install Firefox here yesterday or the day before ( I been messing with stuff on this 'puter for two days hours on end and now it seems okay for the moment )

and I had 1. something so when I went to the site I grabbed the latest, 3. something and then I had nothing but trouble, but Firefox wasn't the only thing wrong with my computer so I was not sure exactly about cause and effect.

My mouse buttons wouldn't work to open tabs, or what would happen is everything I tried to open, same window, new tab, new window, it would open a new tab or window but call it "blank." SOMETIMES if I clicked three or four or five times really fast it would start reloading, and SOMETIMES, but less than half the time, the site would actually then load.

So I ended up uninstalling that version and going backwards in time to 2.7 or something like that, and, well, with alot of other computer-doctoring without a clue, it's functional again.

Although, I am still getting, randomly but usually not TOO many times a day, that thing thst says Firefox has to close now, and as my browser totally freezes up I do have to close.

These days you got to have a good updated antivirus and firewall AND spyware remover / ad remover. The attacks have dramatically increased here this last month or even more recently than that.

19. I feel your pain astral.
My husband heard there was a pretty insidious virus going around last week, I don't know . . . we have what I think are pretty good virus, spyware and firewall programs . . . but I'm just a self taught surfer, no expert.

It's so weird that all the problems went away, just like that, but I'm relieved since I can't afford a trip to the computer store right now.

22. That sounds like your CTRL key is stuck.
It honestly sounds like one of your keyboard keys, even if it is not the CTRL key, is stuck.

23. I'm using 3.05 on a Mac
I had that "select everything on the desktop" thing happen once. But I just clicked on the unselected area and it went away. I have it on both my laptop and my desktop and everything seems to be working fine other than the one-time glitch mentioned above.

27. Quite the opposite here. Upgraded to 3.05 the other day and...
... performance improved a lot! FF 2.whatever was getting to be a major memory hog for some reason.

28. Well I learned this morning that the latest version
of the Firefox 2 series had a "bug-fix" for the previous version. So go to the highest of the 2's but not up to the 3. At least in my experience so far, but hey, I was in the twilight zone with my computer for the last four days, gets wrecked, gets fixed, nope it's wrecked again, and then fixed, and I am beginning to feel like an expert (at least of my own computer) except I have no clue about either the 'why oh why oh why's' of it all, or the 'how come THAT worked?' of anything at all.

29. Just updated yesterday. Today when I tried to print a receipt from
the website screen (click here to print receipt) it wouldn't and came up with a report error to
Firefox. Tried it again...same thing. Went back and chose print from File rather than on the screen and the page printed ok.

I've never had that happen before.
