German Xmas Market in Bavaria **pic heavy**
MissHoneychurch posted her lovely evening photos of the Frankfurt Weihnachtsmarkt, so I thought I would post mine from a local town here in southern Bavaria.

Here is Bad Tölz. Enjoy!

Approaching the main street & market, look how clear the water is in the river. :D

The paintings on the houses are just beautiful!

Currywurst or Bratwurst?

Obligatory glühwein

More food, these are to die for!

Handmade ornaments

Wow, main street is crowded!

More buildings

The Rathaus

Door decoration

Xmas is for kids!

Alles Käse

Pretty little tree

Auf Wiedersehen! P'fua Gott!

Your pictures are lovely - they make me feel as if I could be there!

Out of curiosity, what is "glühwein"? I looked it up and it translates to "glow wine", what does that mean, exactly?

:hi:

8. It's a good quality of wine
plus spices: cinnamon, cloves, orange and lemon peels and sometimes a schuss (shot - rum?) Think of a witches brew. :D It really knocks you on your ass. I can't WAIT to go have more tomorrow. Two of those babies, and you are flying! ;)

12. I think there is one in Chicago
yes they are all unique and different. There was a show on TV last week of the Top 10 Weihnachtsmarkts in Deutschland. Some people just travel for a month and hit as many as they can. :D

kitschy than here in the US.

30. People buy gifts, but it is alot less commercialized
than the US. Our town paper had interviews with a bunch of little kids, 8-10 y/o and all of them said they enjoyed getting together with their extended families, eating together, going for walks, decorating the tree. Only a couple mentioned wanting a toy. Very telling to me. :)

43. yeah it's sad how Christmas here in the US has become in the media's mind
simply about buying stuff - or that's what the people who sell things want us to think.... :(

5. Great pics!
They sure do bring back the memories. We used to know a lady who owned a little gift shop in Munich. Every time she visited us, she brought little ornaments and such. I still have some of them.

27. You should see the market in Nürnberg
Now they have the ornaments! There is a store there, Katie something (it's pretty famous in Germany) they have the beautiful hand-painted tin ornaments. One could spend ALOT of euros in there.

It actually reminds me of the "Christmas fair" I went to in Kabul last year. That one was sponsored by the various international police agencies there.
