Help me out here: An anatomy question (Yes, I have found a body part that is new to me)
Exactly which part is the "back of his chest...?"

Deputies arrested Travis Desmond Short, 32, Roses Drive, Rockingham, Sunday in connection with the incident where a man was shot and left for dead, said Capt. J. K. Glidewell, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

He was charged with felony attempted first-degree murder.

He is being held in Richmond County Jail without bond.

Glidewell said the victim, a 34-year-old man, was shot in the back of his chest last week and left along Old Cheraw Highway, Hamlet, as if he was dead.

1. Generally, I'd think that means the reporter has a poor editor.

It could also mean that the 34-year-old was shot in the upper back.

3. It looks like they would have said that.
That wording is just so awkward. I DO wish people would quit trying to kill each other around here. It has become a weekly occurrence lately. That guy is lucky they found him alive. Most don't live if someone tries to kill them here.

A couple years ago they found a woman who had been sliced up and tried to hide it from the public. We still have an active serial killer in this area and the county next door and our local news and cops seem to think it is not a good idea to warn people.

If I didn't know somebody who reads the newspaper in the county next door, I wouldn't know. The sheriff of county next door mentioned it in their paper. Nobody mentioned it in our paper, though, even though the latest victim was found here. I keep my doors locked and look as mad and menacing as possible if anybody gets close to me in the parking lots when I'm out. :wow:

5. I bet the cops and media "don't want to alarm people."

6. Yeah, it might cause a panic knowing a Freddy Krueger like serial killer is working the streets
and backwoods here. :eyes:

7. I bet everyone already knows, right?
So someone should ask the media and cops, "Since everyone already knows, what would be the harm in talking about it?"

8. Everybody I know, knows about it by now.
That much is for sure. The local officials are something else. They have a strange way of doing things around here. If you could imagine Barney Fife with bullets...that's them. Half of their response time, though, is getting out of the car once they arrive. We do not even have a donut shop around here either.

10. I tend to avoid crowds and if I am out after dark,
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 04:44 AM by Jamastiene
I drive AND park as close to the police cars as I can. They are good about patrolling at night, even though their reason is to make sure none of the teenagers are out cruising. I figure the closer I stay to them, the less time it will take them to move their rear ends to help me.

I tend to have this aversion to something hurting me.
