I almost got in a car crash with two drunk drivers tonight
Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 03:11 AM by dubeskin
I was driving myself and two friends home from a football game tonight in Folsom, CA (for anyone who might know, it was the San Joaquin Section Playoffs, Division 4, and Whitney won so awesomely) and here's the story.

So we're driving along, talking, going the speed limit and whatnot. And then in the rear view mirror I see some lights darting around quickly - two cars seem to be racing up Highway 50, I assume they're drunk, and I start accelerating to get away, and at the same time move over a lane. Now, here's where it gets kind of scary. I see the first car in the lead start to swerve to the left, and I accelerate just a little more. I kid you not, there was probably a foot at max between them and us, and if they'd hit us, we would have swerved out as well. But the first car swerves and runs off into the grass on the side of the road, hits the tree, and we literally see the brake lights go off. I'm not sure the damage. Now the second car does the same thing, but a little bit further ahead, it swerves the same direction but runs into the guard rails.

If I hadn't accelerated, I know for a fact we would have drifted and turned sideways, and then hit by oncoming cars. It's crazy, and I vow never to drive that highway again, at least throughout this next year. So there we are, screaming obscenities and yelling if we should call 911, and in retrospect we should have, although we were all shaken from it. So literally 40 minutes later when we get back to Rocklin, we realized we should have and we're a little bit calmer.

Anyone else have any awesome night-turn scary stories?

1. I'm glad you are okay
I've been a trucker for 12 years and I have all kinds of stories about accidents and life on the road in general. I post them from time to time here in the lounge.

2. I just had a bit of a scare on the way home, but nothing that big.
Let's just say I think I'm too young to have an antlerectomy. So it's a good thing that deer moved out of the way in time. :)

3. I see drunk drivers all the time on my way to work.
I leave for work at 4:30am and I usually see drunks on the weekends I have to work. They are so easy to spot but what bugs me the most is they will "latch on" to you because they can't maintain a steady speed on their own. They will race up from behind and then just sit next to you or slightly behind you. It is due to the fact there are very few other cars on the interstate at that time of day.
If I speed up they speed up, slow down & they slow down. I find it very annoying.
