1. ...is an invocation uttered upon experiencing exasperation.
Usually something like, "Jesus, you're stupid" muttered under my breath after the offending party has left my classroom.

3. An inspired teacher
With some good ideas whose message was high-jacked by some really repellent people for their own purposes.

I'm convinced the world would be a better place if God had allowed Saul to travel on to Damascus unmolested. What was She thinking!

27. Friday night to Sunday morning is a day and a half.
The Jesus of the Bible did not, could not exist. If there was a person who was the basis of those stories, he was not the Jesus of the Bible. I'm frankly a bit shocked to see so many have ignored reality and signed onto the myth as if it were fact.

The Gospels themselves contradict each other and contain historical inaccuracies. Plus, anyone who thinks Jesus was the model of virtue ought to read it again. Frankly, there's some scary shit in there. At least Job escaped YHWH's merciless persecution when he was dead. The idea that one can be tortured FOREVER for merely disagreeing with Christianity is an invention of the NT. If you are suggesting we selectively read the NT to exclude bits you find barbaric or that are impossible, then in what way is it a holy book? Besides, the "good" parts are not unique to Christianity. If you think the pronouncements of JC are the apex of human ethics or morality, then you really owe it to yourself to read some other holy writings.

The think I find the most offensive about Christianity is the idea that we are born evil and that suffering is the way to fix that. Torturing and murdering an innocent man does not make us less evil. It really ought to be obvious to everyone that it makes us MORE evil and sets a terrible precedent that has resulted in untold suffering for centuries.

37. Well, what about any kinda belief in any kinda God?
Do we have one? Or not? Is it evil to believe in God?

I believe there is an Inteligent Creative Force that created the Universe ("universe" meaning that which includes everything even that which we can not conceive of). I do not believe or disbelieve whether we survive consciously our physical death. I do not believe that Christ was the son of God, or that him dying on the cross (if he ever lived at all) is going to give anybody eternal salvation. I do not believe that failing to believe in God will result in your eternal damnation.

But I do believe there is a force outside ourselves pushing us towards the positive, towards being better human beings, towards increased spiritual strength and development, and that it is a force that can heal if used in the right way, such as in prayer or group prayer.
