Poll question: Yaris or Corolla
Help me decide. Corolla is a few thousand more than a Yaris, has a bigger engine size but same mileage at 35 miles per gallon. I have a 95 Camry right now, 99 thousand plus miles and gets 37 mpg but she is starting to fall apart.

Corollas run about $15,000 - 18,000
Yaris run about $12,000 - 14,000

1. I like the Yaris hatch over the Corolla.
Cute yet versatile little car. Same with the Honda Fit.

But my other half is leaning Corolla.

I know that's not what you're asking, but I'd go with it over the Corolla or the Yaris.

5. It's a little more versatile than the Yaris, seating/cargo-wise
and I don't know anybody who has one and doesn't just love it. I haven't heard anybody complain about the Yaris, but I haven't heard anybody rave about their love for it the way people seem to with the Fit.

Matter of fact, all the Top Gear moms chose the Fit (Jazz in the UK) over two counterparts.

8. I just went to their website
They start at $15+, get the same mileage and at 8% apr would cost me about $249 per month. I will definetly test drive one. Thanks for telling me. someone else mentioned it today and I blew it off because I thought they were high priced.

15. I think they keep their value a little better than the Yaris, too.
Though around here resale for Hondas tends to be high because idiot teenagers customize and street race them, so I don't know if that's true everywhere else.

21. I think that varies regionally, best bet is to ask a local cop.
Around here I'm sure they are, but around here they're also: 1. the most common cars and 2. the most frequently wrecked cars (due to the street racing issue) so I think there's a lot of demand to chop shop them.

I have done this. Take a Civic, Yaris, Fit or Corolla through a car wash and listen to the roofs "sing" and ripple when the dryer air hits them. Do that with a Cobalt.

Silence.

Edited on Thu Dec-11-08 08:10 PM by DainBramaged
the engine in the Cobalt is one of the most reliable in history. In spite of what the owners of Japanese cars will tell you, the 2.2/2,4 liter GM 4 is a TANK.

There is an incentive calculator on the first page. And red-tag super discounts till the end o the year.

About $2000 total off and cash incentives.

I also REALLY like that HHR SS Chevy is building now. Two years too late for me, though. Next time, maybe.

These are the cars GM should really focus on. Gen X and Y need something fun/exciting for much less than Camaro money.

41. Motor Trend reported 13.9
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0803_2008_chevrolet_cobalt_ss_first_drive/index.html

My, how times change-this cute Cobalt SS you see here, with a puny 2.0-liter four-cylinder spinning the front wheels and with help from a new "no-lift shift" launch control can scorch 60 in just 5.5 seconds and the quarter in 13.9 at 102.5 mph. Legit? You should see it at the track.

13 flat is just shy of Corvette country (12.5-ish).

Cobalt SS v WRX, and 5 More Sport Compacts

Cobalt THIRD (Mazdaspeed 1st).

Amidst all the doom and gloom facing the automobile industry, right now is ironically an opportune time for car enthusiasts. Power, performance, and features continue to improve, while stiff competition and a bearish market are keeping prices relatively low. How low? Take the new Chevy Cobalt SS, kitted up with a new 260-horsepower turbo engine. Its base price of $24,095 works out to $93 per horsepower. By comparison, a Corvette works out to $115 per horsepower. The Cobalt SS has the same dollar-to-power ratio as the Mustang GT. There are better horsepower bargains around, but their numbers are few.

44. I'd need a look under that hood
before I believed that was stock. Especially dyno'd at 240 from a 260hp rated engine. A loss of only 20 hp from rated bhp to the rear wheels is Christlike in miraculous. But damn, that is a good looking, very impressive car nonetheless.

22. depends
I like hatch backs for practical purposes related to my life, so I would go with a Yaris hatch back, since I don't think there is a Corolla hatch back. Also, I think it would depend on where you live. I know that both cars are quite small, but if you only have street parking, and it's really tight, that might be something to consider.

29. 4th choice (just to mess with your head) ...
Nissan Versa with the 6 speed-- fit and finish might be a bit better than the Yaris.

Vastly greater space in the hatchback than either the Fit or Yaris and should cost about the same as a Yaris and a bit less than a Fit.

(Don't completely overlook the Chevy HHR, though. It's a Cobalt gone retro.)
