Am renewing my CPR status tomorrow! tell me what I need to know!
Haven't renewed since 2002 when I stopped teaching to return to school (for a different degree ;) )

Had a horrible day today with several soon to be gangbanger kids in a couple of my SpEd classes today (high school).

Maybe the CPR training will be a good thing to be able to put to use once I knock a couple of these wannabes on their butts! (just kidding! am tough, but not that mean :P )

1. The bestest part of tomorrow is a much needed day off from the school scene
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 11:42 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Have been on the go with school non-stop, grading, writing IEPs, planning, meeting requirements for the state and more, for the last several weeks. Am getting about 3-5 hours of sleep a night...thanks NCLB! :grr:

One day "off" and actually spending the CPR class time with several of my SpEd aides also taking the class (fun ladies!) will make for a relaxing day.

...and, yeah...will still go into school in the late afternoon...more work to do to be able to stay caught up....
But, at least there won;'t be any kids..and it will be quiet for a while.
(can you tell am suffering burnout????)

GAWD! This glass wine tastes good! mmmmmmmm

11. Wine!
The drink of Warriors!

..and those who need a little space or just blurred distance from life in general...

I can go with that :D

A glass (ok..two) tonight in the middle of the week is a real treat...relaxation is NOT overrated!

12. I'm more apt to have a couple glasses during the week
rather than alone on the weekends when I feel like a freaking loser. :) And I love wine: it's a curse.

I DO have a couple of things for you! Am getting them in the mail by Friday so you get them before you move!

I will pass the CPR class...no prob. Will be fun to be laid back with the gals who also work so hard for me in the SpEd classes.

I miss you like total heck, crimmie! :loveya:  :hi:

8. I've been dreadfully absent.
Maybe now that I see a light at the end of the tunnel I'll be a better friend. I hate being so wretchedly unreliable (although part of it is phone phobia). What are you sending me? Huh? Huh? :bounce:

I miss you too. I'm sorry you won't be out here over the holidays, but I do understand!

4. As far as I know
The certification I got in 1990 doesn't count, and the new approach to CPR is to skip the breathing, and just focus on chest compressions, because chest compressions move enough air to provide oxygen. It makes sense. I hope I never have to use that skill.

7. I think it's 15, breathe once..something like that.
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 11:31 PM by Whoa_Nelly
it's changed even since I last took classes in 2002.

Hope I never have to use it either, but with grandkids around, will be glad to be up to date.

:hi: DS1!

14. I remember the 15/1 you talk about
but seriously think it's now just chest compressions, no breathing. Definitely look it up!

5. They changed the ratios recently
more compressions and less breathing plus they are the same for children and adults now (30:2) instead of the old 15:2 for adults and 5:1 for children

But I'm sure the instructor will go over all this tomorrow...good luck!

I don't agree with it, but do your math

30/2 = 15/1

;)

22. I didn't mean it that way
check this out

* Untrained. If you're not trained in CPR, then provide hands-only CPR. That means uninterrupted chest presses of about two per second until paramedics arrive (described in more detail below). You don't need to try rescue breathing.
* Trained, and ready to go. If you're well trained, and confident in your ability, then you can opt for one of two approaches: 1. Alternate between 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths, or 2. Just do chest compressions. (Details described below.)
* Trained, but rusty. If you've previously received CPR training, but you're not confident in your abilities, then it's fine to do just chest compressions.

I'm "trained but rusty"

What counts is that we're both willing to save lives

I have to get mine renewed every year for my job so I just do a 2 hour challenge course but undoubtedly I come out of the Red Cross place with a sore back and shoulders...but getting the heart beating and blood circulating is the most important thing
