Poll question: a_random_joel's musical tastes are:
I like Led Zeppelin. And ABBA.

I like Wings. Hate The Plastic Ono Band.

I like NWA. Dislike Gangsta rap.

I like Patsy Cline. Detest Country music.

I like House of Pain. Everlast is OK too.

I like Britpop. Don't like Rick Astley.

I like Disco. I said I like disco, dammit.

I like the Steve Miller band. Even Abracadabra.

I like Techno. Still.

I love funk. Even when attempted by white guys.

My favorite band of all time is The Beatles. I am not ashamed to say The Stones pretty much suck.

I love Pink Floyd. I have only heard one Grateful Dead song.

I like Duran Duran. But I hate boy bands.

I like the Smiths. Most of Morrisey's solo stuff stinks.

And finally... The 80s band Nu Shooz. One hasn't truly lived until one has heard "I Can't Wait" on a loud sound system. I am completely serious. Perhaps I can have my wife arrange this as my funeral dirge.

1. You sir...
Are clearly a genius. ;)

Beatles yes, Stones...meh...never really *got* that...

Floyd, oh yeah...Dead? How many songs can go "Plinkity plinkity plink plink ad nauseum?

Most of Morrissey's solo stuff does in fact, stink.

And of course, Disco rules, because regardless of what Kraftwerk fans everywhere think...(omg, she's gonna say it...)
They are NOT, I repeat...NOT the godfathers of Techno. No disco = no techno. Period.

Oh yeah, and Rick Astley is a licker of donkey balls if ever a licker of donkey balls drew breath.

;)

2. I agree with you about the genius part. Disagree...
about Kraftwerk.

But I do agree that disco was an essential component.

7. Not a problem
And don't get me wrong, I'm totally a Kraftwerk fan; what I mean is that I totally believe that had there been no Kraftwerk, there would still be techno...no the same with disco.

Hmmm...that's essentially what I said in the first place, innit? :silly:

I was thinking more along the lines of the theme to Midnight Express.

And that Electric Dreams song he did with Phil from the Human League?
That's the exact source of Nu-Metal.

5. Stones rule.
All of Morrisey's solo stuff sucks (with the exception on "Alsatian Cousin" and "Margaret on the Guillotine").

Wings is SHIT. Plastic Ono Band (especially Yoko) is GOD.

There is a lot of good country; none of it was released in the past 30 years.

Otherwise, you're cool.

8. I will not have you reduce this thread to a SUCKS thread.
We agree Rick Astely sucks.

Suedehead does not suck.

The only country that rocks is Big Country. And that's the only song of theirs that rocked.

I am cool. If you keep it up I have several other genres I can add to my list for discussion.

I know you don't want to have a who's better: Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail debate. (Daniel Ash's solo stuff sucks. As does David J's. Jury is still out on Mr. Murphy.)

Or a Pre - Vince Clark or Post - Vince Clark Depeche Mode debate.

Did I mention that Rick Astley sucks?

Johnny Cash. Tammy Wynette. Marty Robbins.

And, by the way -- Love and Rockets is better. I know, I know. I feel so dirty.

Jaco Pastorius played stand up bass, and Flava Flav was a back-up singer.

Then you would be talking.

16. old Stones better than new Stones
but Beatles were much more creative. Agree about Yoko she was way ahead of her time, or is this backassward again!? Where everyone says what is good is really bad, or what is bad is really good?! Otherwise I'm going to start running away now. Plus I have a drum lessson.

Patsy Cline, yes. Lucinda and Roseanne Cash are pretty good neo-country (?), though. And how about Wanda Jackson? David Dye had her on the other night, she used to be a pure countryite, prior to her RnB and rockabilly stuff. Interesting.

Actually, there's a couple songs I like. Sympathy for the devil, Ruby Tuesday, Paint it Black, and that disco song about the Peurto Rican girls dying to meet me.
