Three videos led me to buy 20-40 records
mostly CDs, but there were a few cassettes in there.
Bob Mould: It's Too Late: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZFO3EIXbhg
Too Much Joy: That's A Lie (featuring LL Cool J (I don't know what happened to the "Their mothers love me" part): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwxFwYIkQcQ
The video for this song isn't on YouTube, but it wasn't so much the video but the song, so here's a live performance, complete with the deal-sealing mandolin part: Steve Wynn: Carolyn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IpksMQwLd4

And a bonus (and another half-dozen records or so) even though I'm pretty sure I heard it on the radio rather than saw it on MTV: They Might Be Giants: Ana Ng: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dQLkxz6c2E

And you?

1. My wallet has banned me from record stores
until I learn some self control...

I go in there to get one thing, and walk out with it plus a bunch more...

every. single. time.

5. Back in the day, I lived in used record stores
but I don't think I've bought any records to speak of in at least five years. The videos in my OP all played about 4 in the morning on MTV in or around 1990. The last video to send me straight out to the record store was-- well, I better not tell you, you might go buy the catalog.:P

2. Do they still make cassette players?
I must have hundreds of those things, and I refuse to buy them all again in the form of CD's.

8. Apparently
http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=172628

My dream toy is this: http://www.amazon.com/Crosley-CR248-Songwriter-CD-Recorder/dp/B000I2WF6W
Records to CD from LP or cassette. I'd swear that there was one that looked just like it but was considerably cheaper only a few years ago. Then again, there are used ones available. I have hundreds of albums and cassettes and practically no way to play them. It would be a joy to hear all that stuff again.

4. As it should.
:)

I find so many bands just by reading one band's thank you list in the liner notes. I figure if a band I like likes someone else, that band should be worth checking out.

I also use Myspace. I'll go to one band's page that I like, pick one of their friends and check them out, then check one of that band's friends, and so on and so on. I've killed whole nights doing this, and find a ton of cool music that way.

6. Hope you don't like jazz; that method leads to madness
or anyway to buying 40 or 50 jazz records in no time flat. "This is all right, but I really like the trumpet player." Buy his record & "This is all right, but I really like the tenor player." Etc. etc. ad infinitum...

(Come to think of it, it isn't the same method, but the same general idea.:))

10. I spent a hundred British Pounds on cds last week
but I only buy records once or twice a year, so it wasn't so extreme. 6 cds, I think? I haven't really listened to them yet.

12. I still have the used cassette of the Cars' first record I bought during Junior Year Abroad
in Canterbury; LPs weren't really workable at the time and CDs didn't exist yet or practically not (82-83)

11. Just bought "Chinese Democracy" last week.
It's good to hear Axl's voice again. It's not G'n'R, but I like it.
