Are you related to anyone famous?
(Cowsills vs. Partridge thread gave me this idea ;))

I am related to Loretta Lynn and thus, Crystal Gayle...their grandmother and my great-grandmother were sisters. Now, for any naysayers...if I were gonna make up someone to be related to,...work with me here, people!

1. this fellow
http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/michaels.htm

The sad thing is Mike never came home but he is a hero to me. He was one of the Iwo Jima flagraisers. May he rest in peace, I would love to visit his gravesite and others in Arlington cemetery, sorry for the rant but there are times when I think of WWII and that time period and wish I could had been there.
RIP Sgt Mike

I found myself rooting for Gep to give a good speech yesterday and I thought, "Why not declare?" I think everyone who's decided should. I'm proud to be a Gephardt supporter and prouder still of the great field of contenders we Dems have running. We need to get past some of the backbiting and realize how awfully freakin' lucky we are.

Go Democrats!

I would rather have DK as president but Gephardt wouldnt be so bad imo he would make a fine secretary of labor, the closest thing you could have to a union leader running the department of labor.

I'll give you a hint as to who he is or his wife was the one who suggested instead of throwing dog or cat food at the Iranians, why not tie yellow ribbons to old oak trees in remembrance of the hostages.

On edit another hint I was surprised he didn't wet himself laughing as our then Ambassador pulled an "Ayatollah joke" at Khomeini's expense by sneaking the other Americans out of Iran.

12. Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar, second president of the Republic of Texas
I am a decendant of Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar. He was Sam Houston's VP, then the second president of the Republic of Texas.

http://www.lsjunction.com/people/lamar.htm

In 1837, the United States recognized Texas as a Republic. But the battle for the Texas frontier was just beginning.

President Mirabeau B. Lamar's agenda was aggression. He set aside funding for the Rangers to help expand the frontier. The hostiles were mostly Cherokees and Commanches from North and West Texas.

http://www.cleburnetimesreview.com/articles/2003/06/05/columnists/in_the_know/know04.txt

My great-great uncle Lamar's presidency of Texas was not unlike the governorship of the Chimp. Both had blood on their hands. Lamar's was, unfortunately, Indian blood from pogroms against the Commanches and Cherokees.

Like they say: You can pick your nose, but you can't pick your relatives.

One of my favorite Ken Dryden stories is when we were having our family reunion up in Canada a few years back.

There were around a couple hundred people there. And at the softball game, my brother didn't have a glove so Ken let him borrow his. That was neat.

And during that same game, my brother slid into home base and got dirt, rocks and other stuff all in his knee. There was blood and stuff all over. It was pretty gruesome.

According to my research, I am cousin to John Adams and John Quincy Adams and Samuel F.B. Morse, and direct descendant of Stephen Hopkins (of Mayflower fame). But I'm most proud of being a direct descendant of Anne Foster, who was condemned as a witch in Salem MA in 1692 and died in the Salem Jail. She did so because she refused to play the games of the religious powers and name other "witches".

That's why His Chimperial Majesty creeps me out not only in general ways but specifically. Somewhat on that topic, I have a cousin who, in a less dramatic and dangerous way, is like Chimp's missing (wayward-young-man-in-his-time-bailed-out-endlessly-by-the-folks way)

66. I think you can be fairly sure you're not a Bush
You wouldn't have the intellect to be posting on DU, if you were, don't you think? You obviously have much more intelligent forebears.:D

58. Rodham
My earliest recorded female ancestor's maiden name was "Rodham." So, maybe I'm related to Hillary.

And an old actor, named John McIntyre, was a distant cousin. I think he played in an old tv western, Wagon Train, maybe.

And I have a cousin that dated Gregg Allman. :)

59. John McIntyre
Wasn't he the judge in the TV series The Virginian? Used to watch it when I was a kid. Back in the days of 90 minute westerns.

69. The late Senator George Aiken of Vermont
who was a Liberal Republican (they made those in the 60s) who vehemently opposed the Vietnam War. He was my grandfather's cousin. All of the old men on my father's side look alike and he fits right in. Must be something about the water in Vermont that makes such thought provoking politicians.

72. I don't think so...
... but apparently my aunt married into a family that is married into the Bush clan.

I did find out recently, however, that my family name was changed when my ancestors came over from across the pond. It seems our family name used to be "Death".

74. William Shakespeare
I can trace back through John Hart of New Jersey, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, back to England and to William Shakespeare's family. It's certainly not a direct path, but I have a genealogical chart which establishes the relationship. I did not, however, seem to have inherited his playwriting genetic material!

78. Andy Warhol(or at least I was) and....
I am also related to an actress who is in her 20s and was kind of in for a few years. You would probably at least recognize her name and show, which was on ABC.
But I do not want to disclose my her name, which is obviously the same as my last name.
Need a certain level of anonymity here.
Also, had a cousin(older than me) who wrote a political book in the 1980s which probably some or most of the older DUers might have heard of, but again, the whole last name.

The dead artists is probably the most famous on my short list.

80. My partner's brother
is an Actor, and works on Broadway. His partner is a Music Director and has done several high profile musicals. (again, for anonymity's sake, I will refrain from naming names or shows to protect their privacy). Through them I have met Broadway producers, high profile actors, comedians. One time, we were staying at their home, after a long flight from England. As we arrived from the airport, they were entertaining another couple, and we all stayed up late talking and laughing. Later my partner and I were at home flipping through the channels and there on Comedy Central, was one of the guys my partner's brother was entertaining, with his own stand up special. Kinda wierd!

82. Yes - Luke Petitgout, OL for the New York Giants
He's a cousin from my mother's side. Related because my grandmother was adopted into his family. I keep telling him when I see him that I'll be watching him - and he likes that. He values my opinion.

85. Well, kinda...
The closest thing I've got is the drummer in the band 4 Non-Blondes as a cousin (not sure what number to place in front...second or third, I think). I'm not sure that a member of a one hit wonder band counts as famous...but whatever...
