I just used a Neti Pot for the first time
Thats the weirdest thing I've ever done.

A Neti Pot is a little, oh watering can like thing, that you put saline solution in and clean out your nose and sinuses - supposed to help relieve allergies and sinus infections.

Its just weird; it feels really weird! But DAMN I can actually breathe now!
We'll see how congested I am in the morning.

2. did you boil the water first?
My mom boils the water and then lets it cool down. Me, I just use hot tap water and salt.

Just curious...

3. Does it clear out the sinus cavity totally? Including your forehead
Or just the sinus cavities on either side of your nose?

I'm curious because I definitely want to try this, but frankly, I'm afraid I'll drown.

4. You will not drown

I actually made Little MB use my neti pot the other day because she kept sneezing (yes, I know I am not supposed to share a neti pot but hell, she's my kid and I sterilized it)

It worked really well for her, although she was freaked out when it actually came out the other nostril. She had seen me use it, but living it was different.

It is a weird feeling, but it really does help. I do it before bed because I feel it helps me sleep better.

7. I didn't drown
but, boy, it sure feels weird - especially since I didn't know what to expect.
It was kinda like getting water up your nose when you go swimming.

I thought i'd be congested again in 5 or 10 minutes - nope still not.

I just hope this helps my allergies.

14. It will
I've cut my allergy and asthma meds by about half with no ill effects. Just be sure to use it every day or after you've been exposed to known triggers.

6. I just
used tap water and the one I bought came with 30 of its special packets of stuff - sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride I think.

I bought the "sinu-cleanse" system because it was the only one I could find at walgreens when I was there.

10. I used it when I had a really bad headache
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 09:54 PM by WolverineDG
did everything I could think of & nothing touched it. So I used my neti pot as it could have been a sinus headache. Within seconds, the pain went away & I've never had another headache like that since.

12. Yoga teacher taught me to just use a tablespoon, warm salty water...
I still do it from time to time to clear blockages.

At first it seems to the body like a "why the fuck would I do this" kind of thing, but it's kinda cool...

15. I'm a die-hard neti pot convert
Takes a bit of practice, but I feel so much better in my sinuses and get so many fewer colds, and the ones I get are shorter-lived. Love. It.

According to the s.o., I have a serious snoring problem. Of course, so does the s.o. :)

19. They are great.
I've been using them for a few years whenever I get a head-cold or stuffy nose.

Once you get the hang of using the Neti Pot, it's no big deal to use it. I recommend it highly.

I don't think I could go through with it...the one you are talking about. Sounds painful. Is it?
