3. ...
I hate to be like this but when I saw him the first thing I said to my wife was "Couldn't he have looked a little less unkempt?"

6. In my experience
shoes are nice. Your feet do not hurt when you step on something sharp. Also, if it is cold outside your feet do not get as cold. Finally, sometimes there are yucky things on the ground that you do not want to step in. These are just some of the times shoes come in handy.

7. if you are barefoot enough
you don't have to worry about sharp things. most of the sharp things that do impale my feet are in the house, and while i have stepped in dog poo once, it was only once, and the grass had been too tempting.
while yes, i do need shoes in the WI climate, i have barefooted enugh that i can go barefoot til the snow flies. and not only do my feet feel better and look better, it has helped me to stay warmer in winter.

shoes suck

8. I have heard that
Unfortunately, my skin is so tender that a baby's hands feel like sandpaper. Even when I was lifting weights everyday and working construction I could not get calluses on my hands. I need shoes. But if you do not, good for you.

9. I think it's also the first time I've seen him _not_ wearing shorts! :)
And who the hell cares whether he looked "unkempt"? Christ, he's not being nominated on the basis of how he _looks_ or dresses! It's his incredible talent and his wife's incredible talent, and ALL the cast and crew's talent that got them these awards! WOO-HOO!!!!!!! (Can you tell that I'm incredibly toasted right now?)

However, I have to agree with neoteric--PJ definitely should have gone barefoot. Hehe.

I can't wait for the DVD release of ROTK....Elijah Wood and Phillipa and Fran totally won my heart during the Two Towers commentary when they talked about how they found it totally offensive and ridiculous that anyone would try to construe their movie as a pro-war movie. And the guys who played Merry and Pippin are such tree-huggers! Aaaaahhhhh!!! I love them all! And Ian McKellan's kick-ass gay-rights web site....Lovely people, they are! :) :) :) :) :)

(Oh yeah, and I love whoever invented/discovered alcohol!) :toast:
