I've just given up pot
After more than ten years of heavy smoking, Its been 6 days since I last had a pipe. Can't sleep properly and don't have much of an appetite but I havn't killed anyone yet! which is pretty amazing I think.

3. Why?
If everyone smoked pot the world would be a much better place.

4. No
If everyone smoked pot, everyone would just *think* the world was a better place.

And everyone would be really hungry. :D

5. Not if they all smoked they way I did
I'm all for pot smoking - I havn't turned into one of those annoying born again non smokers and I'd never tell anyone else to stop - it has many things to recommend it, but the amount I smoked was WAAAAY too much, even when I grew it myself it cost too much and interfered with my motivation to do other things. And I'm sick of cleaning up (water in side, don't spill it,smells like shit on the carpet still it.)

I'd smoked for nearly 15 years and for the last 5 or so really heavilly - I tried cutting down but for me cold turkey is the only thing that'll work.

That said some people (John Ashcroft I'm talking to you) could REALLY benefit from a scoob now and then.

6. What made you decide to give it up, mate?
My reasons for giving it up many years ago was a bad experience on it.

:hi:

I grew up in Eltham which was then hippie-ville and almost everyone I knwe as a teenager smoked, in the last few months a lot of people close to me have given it the boot and I've been feeling increasingly guilty about it. My other half was also a big smoker and recently he's been unwell with stress ulcers, one day he had a pipe and for some reason (maybe the ulcers, maybe the stress, maybe the ulcer medication, maybe divine intervention???) felt like he was loosing his mind, so he stopped, that was about 3 months agao now and he used to be worse than me - I figured that now that he's stopped it was as good a time as any.

I'm now smoking the ciggies like a chimney but figure one addiction at a time! I've never really been into any other drugs though I've tried most (not heroin) they've never really appealed, marijuana always worked well for me (even after a million pipes I'd talk a mile a minute and was never the stereotyped "doper") but I'm fast approaching 30 and just got sick of really.

12. Your other half had a similar experience to me.
Just I wasn't on any meds at the time. The stuff I was smoking was laced with something else, and it didn't mix well with me, and I felt very much like I was losing my mind.

I know what you mean about smoking the ciggies though, mate. A pack of Horizon 50's is lasting me about a day and and a half. LOL

Well good for you, mate, I wish you luck. :)

But they can't really stereotype a pot smoker, ya know? Hell my mum is 56 and will smoke it.

You take care, mate.

9. I used to smoke pot occasionaly
I never did get what the big deal was about it. When I got to be in my early twenties the stuff just made me paranoid. I don't miss it.

However, I did have one interesting experience on pot one time. I'm not sure what kind it was or if it had something laced in it, but, man, it had me rolling on the ground.

A friend and I were at a lake doing some night fishing. We brought along all the party essentials. After loosening up with a few beers we broke out the stash. I don't remember how much we smoked. I don't think it was very much, maybe a couple of joints. A few minutes after we finished we both started laughing uncontrollably. Neither of us did anything that was funny, but we were in hysterics. It seemed like we laughed for hours and it wore us both out. We zonked out in the car until the morning. We didn't catch any fish.

13. The problem with pot...
... is that a lot of folks start smoking it every day, and then almost all day every day, etc.

I think the stuff is fine once in a while but I wasted 2-3 years of my life smoking way to much and I don't recommend that.

Beer is a lot less trouble :)

14. Cold turkey is the only way
I look forward to one day it being legal and just being able to go
out and buy one gram, smoke it on friday night, and not having any
around.

Have you thrown out your gear yet? I can tell how serious i am about
quitting smoking, if i am willing to part with me pipe.

At age 20, i did what you're doing and did not smoke pot for 17 years. In my late 30's, i reconnected with grass on a less frequent
basis and enjoy it immensely. Too much for too long can be hard.

When i quit long back, i remembering having to judge pot and make it
"evil" and to judge pot smokers... My propensity for the weed had me
incapable of meeting it face to face. I was afraid of it, in a way,
as i really like it.

Now i see pot is a magnifier of my own state of mind. It can cut out
certain psychic energy spectrums that can make sleeping much easier.
Getting normal sleep is a nice help from the weed.

It definitely cuts sex drive, and exercising is easier without smoking.

I like being stoned on long haul flights, as it kills the pain of
being packed in the little airplane room for so many hours. After
a very stressful business week, it is especially nice.

I like the high of a fine sensimilla, without the lethargy of the
hangover. It strikes me that weed balances the pain of daily life
in our society. To stay off the weed, sometimes it helps to
replace weed with an alternative balance that also kills the pain,
like exercise, or a new job.

Congratulations. Good to hear.

I didn't say I dont want to eat just that the appetite has reduced (but considering I'm normally a "eat anything in sight" type it's not really a huge problem

20. I gave it up in '69 ...
... after driving back to work (theatre projectionist) following a dinner break. My left turn into the parking lot seemed to take twenty minutes. I ran upstairs to the booth, switched over from one projector to the other, and was absolutely convinced that my best friend was meaning to kill me at any moment.

23. Not me...
but have given up heroin, barbiturates, cocaine, crystal meth and booze. The odd thing is that I never smoked weed when I was doing any of the harder drugs.
But if you find it necessary to give up smoking, I applaud your decision. You know what is best for you. Good luck.
