1. Going to make two piecrusts after lunch
Making an apple and a pumpkin to take to my aunt's house tomorrow.

If Mr. MG were here, he'd be joking that my aunt has already started cooking the turkey--not that it's so large, but because she has some pathological fear of salmonella and so cooks the turkey till it would beg for mercy if it could send up an SOS from the oven.

2. The only thing I've been cooking this morning was a
potato, egg, bacon, and cheese frittata for breakfast. Mom insisted on making Thanksgiving dinner this year, although she asked me to bring my sweet potato/praline dish. I won't need to make that until tomorrow, though.

:hi:

4. Made cranberry sauce already, and ...
... I need to mix/roll out six pie crusts this morning. I should probably cut up that pumpkin today too.

5. I really need to get started
:banghead:

Alas, I am stuck at work.

I am going to make the cranberry relish and the required stock (chicken, turkey, vegetable) tonight. Yes, I know one can purchase stock, but I like to do it all homemade....

6. Raises hand.
There's a seven-pound pork roast slow-cooking in my oven right now. It's going to get refrigerated tonight, then sliced and warmed in the juice reduction tomorrow afternoon.

It smells great in here.

8. You do a pork roast for Thanksgiving?
Is that the main meal or a side dish?

10. We are this year, and it's the main dish.
We usually do a traditional turkey, but a couple years ago we got a ham instead, and this year I threw out the idea of trying this. It's part of trying to make things easier on my mom and dad, since we celebrate at their home but they're getting older and less able to deal with the insanity of doing everything in their kitchen. The rest of us split up the dishes and do what we can at our own homes before heading over.

When my mom asked Dad what he thought of the menu change, he said, "Food is food."

12. That's why I took today off
I've made the filling for an apple and cranberry crisp that I'll bake in the morning, I've roasted beets that I'm getting ready to remove skins from and slice for orange glazed beets, I'll be making a fig and walnut tart along with cheese muffins (muffins will be baked tomorrow).
