I am old and out of the loop, here, but there seems to be a big controversey over letting students at high school dances express themselves freely in dancing -- b/c the latest thing is "freak-dancing" which basically looks like you're -- well, doing it on the dance floor, from what I gather.
On the one hand I am a bit stunned that it's come to this with the teenage thing having to have its 'shock-value' on the older generation, but then again, kids are being given rules on how they can and can not dance at their high school dances.
Who the heck taught these kids that this is the way to dance anyway? Is that what they see on TV?
Who are the adults to worry about how kids dance anyway? Didn't people at one time think the Twise was vulgar?
Should we be worried about keeping kids from dancing obscenely, or should the red-faced adults just kinda turn their heads away and let the herd police itself as to what it thinks is acceptable or not?
Heck, man, first time I danced at a high school dance I had no idea how to do anything, I lept back and forth with my legs spread out and probably looked like a chimp trying to hop over a bed of coals. But you know what? I knew nobody cared how I danced, and I had a real good time shaking off my shyness for one night at least. (In the 70's they actually placed good music at them high school dances -- although I can't remember if it was a live band or a record player, off the top of my head.
Maybe I should do a poll . . . .
