I has a Wii.
When my stepfather died, one of the things I promised my younger sister we would do was get a Wii at some point. (During the whole process, we spent a lot of time at my stepdad's brother's house, and he has one, so we played it quite a bit, loved it). It was something to make us feel better at the time.
So I finally had the money to start trying to get one, and I luckily found one in the Best Buy at the local mall. I was prepared to hit a dozen stores in search of the thing, and found it at the first store I looked in.
So I picked up Smash Brothers Brawl and No More Heroes.
Haven't played No More Heroes yet, but Brawl is freakin' awesome. I've played the other Smash Brothers games before, but this one is even better, not to mention it looks amazing. And it has King Dedede and Meta Knight.
So yeah. Very happy about that, and so is my sister. :hi:

1. If you don't have it yet, get the Wii Sports package.
Golf, tennis, baseball and bowling. It's a laugh riot if you're into that sort of thing (I am). There is also a cow-racing game on another disc which can take you from normal individual to laughing nut within about forty seconds. Priceless.

I honestly like Wii. It's the first video-gaming system in my lifetime that is both physically and mentally engaging. Have fun with it!

2. Wii Sports AFAIK comes as standard with any new Wii - I think.
We're getting a Wii too... except it's a Christmas present - meant for the whole family but my son gets to open it ehe :)

Mark.

4. Your son is going to be excited, huh?!
And yes, the Sports comes with the new ones. I didn't realize that when I posted it (I did not buy ours originally). Thanks for the correction for other Wii fans out there.

Have fun with it!

12. I don't know who will be more excited, my son or my wife.
She insisted it came with wii fit. It did.

This is the first time I have bought a Christmas present that's intended for the whole family, for my son to open and to not to actually want to wait until Christmas to open it and play with it.

We did get a deal at the end of the day. I now know why there's no wii's in the shops. Some bastards keep buying them as soon as they hit the shops and flog them on ebay. So yes, I ended up the ebay route but it worked out nicely at the end of the day - we paid what we would have had in the store anyway. ($360 for Wii and Wii Fit).

14. Wow - sounds like a battle just to get one!
The ebay sellers are awful. You'd think retail shops would limit the buys, but obviously they haven't figured out how yet.

We were lucky - my DH does human interfaces for vehicle applications, but his company had an ongoing research project with Nintendo when Wii first came out. Nintendo gave all of the engineers on my husband's crew a reserved first generation Wii for a set price. It was slightly lower than the retail, but we never would have gotten one without the deal. For us, finding extra controllers was an absolute nightmare. It took us two years to get two more controllers, checking every game shop in our area every couple weeks.

It is really fun, and I love it because it's good for all ages. Everyone gets a big kick out of playing the games, from young to old. I have been looking at Wii Fit - looks like an interesting application. I got in pretty good shape just doing the boxing on Wii Sports. Man, that's a workout, and I have improved my jab immensely. Heh.

I hope you and your family enjoy it! :-)

3. One thing I've found with my Wii (and friends')
Is that we never play them. We always turn to our other consoles. Perhaps it's because we DO have others. Although there's rarely a reason we've found to go back to the Wii. It's great for the older and younger people to play, however, I've found better party games, such as Rock Band, to be much more "fun."

I enjoyed Brawl until I beat it a few times, but it seemed like the replay value of it had depleted severely from Melee.

7. I've never owned a Smash Brothers game...
I've only played it on friends' systems, sooo...I'll probably get more mileage out of it than you might've. I mean, if you've played one of the games, there's not a huge amount of difference between them, really.

15. There are some good party games for the Wii...
There's Guitar Hero as well as Rock Band, there's Mario Kart, there's WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Party.

Just good old fashioned Wii Sports is good for parties - nothing like the bowling game.

There's also the retro-gaming - you can do the Virtual Console and play old NES, SNES, Genesis, Neo-Geo and N64 games, or download new Wii titles from the Shop Channel.

5. We've had ours for awhile, but I finally picked up a Wii Fit the other day.
Costco had a whole stack of them. Almost as hard to get as the original Wii was! At any rate, if you want to pop another $80 or so into the system, the Fit is an awesome add-on. Very fun. Ski jumping, hula hoops, yoga, stepping, you name it. Nice little workout.

11. We finally got two to give for Christmas gifts.
We searched high and low and no one had them here. Hubby got a good deal on them on Amazon with free shipping. The kids are going to be so surprised! I still want to get the Fit package, though.
