4. We got ours from a puppy mill

Crazy lady at a traders market...

Poor guy was 5 months old... he hugged my girlfriend around the neck when she first picked him up. No telling what would have happened to him after that weekend ( monthly event )

7. There are breed-specific rescue networks

There is that option. In that case; they'd have a shelter dog that is also the type of dog that they want.

If you've got some kind of specific need, then these are the way to go I think.

I'm looking at getting a Maine Coon cat and I'm checking the rescue networks to see if one is available near me.

There are breed rescue organizations for every breed, including bichons.

Both my pure-breds are from rescue, and I am a volunteer and big supporter. If more people seeking a specific breed of dog knew about breed rescue, we'd have less people buying dogs at pet shops and thus supporting puppy mills.

6. Bichons are awesome dogs

I never used to like "little" dogs until we got ours. We had two (the older one passed away this year). Our first was from a breeder. Our younger one (we still have him) came from a rescue situation.

The added benefit of the Obamas getting a Bichon is the French name - it would infuriate the right wingers!

16. ohhhh! I miss my Fritty Sue!

:cry: Ny beloved bichon Fritty lived to be almost 16, but it wasn't long enough. Such a precious darling she was. She's been gone for over 4 years, and I've missed her every minute.

A bichon would make a nice pet for the Obamas, but so would a shelter pup. I love shelter dogs.
