I came [ ] this close to needing bail money this morning!
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 03:54 PM by polmaven
I went to the mall to run in quickly and pick up a couple of indulgements before going to a couple of appointments later in the morning.

I never made it past the parking lot, but was warned not to commit a felony by a security guard.

As I pulled into a parking space. I saw what I hoped was a full sized stuffed dog lying on the rear window ledge of the car parked across the aisle. As I got out of the car, the dog moved. I walked over to the car, and noted the windows were all tightly closed!!!!!

I pulled out my cell, and called the local police department, told the dispatcher exactly where I was, and gave him the registration number of the car, and proceede to wait.

25 minutes later, when no one, not even mall security had shown, I started to call again, when, finally, a mall security car did come around the corner.

A lot of good that did, though. They evidently don't have the ability or the authority to open a car, and this guy just decided to call yet ANOTHER useless security guard.

I told him that, by this time, I was looking around for something to use to break the car window. He warned me that was a felony, and he would have to tell the police how the window got broken. I told him I would do my best to save that dog, and let a lawyer worry about my legal situation later. The DOG was what was important then.

Finally, before the police came, the owner came along, and shrugged "I forgot"!!!!! That was the second time I was in danger of being arrested, 'cause I wanted to slam my fist into her mouth! YOU FORGOT??? FORGOT WHAT, YOU MORON??? FORGOT TO LEAVE YOUR DOG AT HOME, WHERE HE BELONGED? FORGOT TO BE A RESPONSIBLE HUMAN BEING??? FORGOT YOUR DOG IS A LIVING, BREATHING, VULNERABLE CREATURE WHO DEPENDS ON YOU?

I was able to hold my anger in check, though, as the guard told her there had been several complaints, and the police had been notified. The door was open, and the dog had air again, so no need to incur fines, etc, at that point. I will save my words for the letter to the editor I will write. I certainly hope that she never becomes dependent on someone else, and that someone FORGETS and locks her in a closed car during a summer morning with 96% relative humidity.

She forgot! ...Moron!!!!

End of rant....sorry! :grr: :grr: :grr:

on edit...my spelling was atrocious!

1. Most people aren't responsible enough to have pets
They need a lot of care and attention--most people don't realize that when they get them. Saw an awful story on the news about how more and more animals are being taken to the pouind these days because people can't afford them because of the bad economy.

2. Good for you
for not letting go with what, I'm sure, you would have loved to have said about the situation.
I'll have to admit that on one of my "Bad Days" I may have ripped her a new one...(verbally)

I'll also admit that with those kind of inconsiderate pricks that a part of me has a fantasy of locking their asses in a car on a sweltering day and waiting until they're about to pass out and then opening the door and saying "Oh, excuse me...I forgot"...Heh, Heh, Heh

7. I came very, very close to ripping into her.
I nearly drew blood from my tongue I was biting so hard. At that point, though, it really was more ..er..prudent..(thank-you Poppy Bush)to get in my car and leave the situation as it stood.

3. Way to go for not giving up!
The temperature inside a car can reach somewhere around 170 degrees on a summer day.

Many years ago, I did some volunteer work with disabled kids, and one just broke my heart. He was being taken care of by a group of nuns because years before a parent had left him inside a car and his brain was basically fried. He had no awareness of his surroundings at all.

4. There have been a couple of kids killed here in Austin Tx
because of this. One even at a day care center where the worker forgot the kid was in the car. Sick !

5. The cops didn't issue a citation?
Around here, the cops will issue the driver a ticket, free an animal however they have to, impound the animal on cruelty charges, etc. They should at the very least have issued the owner a ticket.

6. The real cops never got there!
just the mall security. I don't know if a citation will be issued after the fact, but security let her get in her car and leave, after just a little "tut tutting" type discussion...It was disgusting.

8. Happened here last week.
We have a lady in the 'hood who no longer plays with a full deck. I don't think she HAS a deck any more. She LOVES dogs. Rescues strays. She has 13! That would be commendable if she cared for them well. She doesn't. My wife has seen her car in a parking lot with 2 or 3 of the dogs inside. She has nicely and politely spoken to the ditz about the danger of doing this.

Last week it's in the 90s and she calls here blubbering that the vet "killed" one of her dogs. Gave it a shot and it died. The vet is a friend and I called him. Not that I thought he had done anything wrong, just wanted the whole story.

She had come in there with her hair on fire about her dog was dying. She only left it in the car "for a little while". In her BLACK SUV, in the freaking asphalt, unshaded parking lot of the American Legion Club while she was nice and cool inside sucking down a few beers. He went out to the car and saw the dog was convulsing and probably already beyond help. Gave it a shot of something anyway to try and stop the convulsions. Too late. I said I'm calling the Humane Society. She'll kill all of those dogs off. He said "Don't bother. I've already called them." They came Tuesday and rounded up all the mutts. I hope they can find GOOD homes for them.

Ya done good, polmaven.
