GAAAAH!!!! Religious hypocrisy rant!!!!!
A co-worker's niece attends a Catholic private school (a junior this year), and has been in the Catholic school system her entire life, as were her 2 older brothers. Well, she and her boyfriend, who also attends the same school were sleeping together and she got pregnant. She and her parents decided that she was going to keep the baby and put it up for adoption.

The school kicked her out. They said that she could NOT attend Catholic school and be pregnant. They said that they don't approve of abortion, but that if she wanted to graduate from the school, that was her only option. She could have the abortion and just "keep it quiet."

Are you frakkin' KIDDING me?!?!?!?!

Oh, and the boyfriend? No scholastic repercussions whatsoever.

I'm sorry, but this is just pure, undiluted EVIL. Telling this poor girl that her decision to keep the baby (a decision that they claim is the ONLY right choice) will keep her from graduating with her classmates. And THEN suggesting that she get an abortion, for which they would probably throw up to her for the rest of her (Catholic) life?!?!?!?

1. Nothing new....

Have they expelled the "daddy", too?

3. No- Daddy is totally immune....
Now, I don't know whether he has admitted to being the daddy (but they'd been dating exclusively for over 2 years). And I don't know HIS opinion on "keep the baby" vs abortion.

But the bottom line is that all of the ramifications fall squarely on the shoulders of the girl.

2. If condoms failed as much as "abstinance" the FDA wouldn't let
them be advertised as preventing pregancy. Abstinance probably fails somewhere around 40 and 50 percent. My family is close to a Catholic family with seven kids and about 20 grandkids. Six of the seven kids have been divorced. Ten of the grandkids have kids of their own and a couple of them even eventually married, but the poor grandmother of this group has never had the privilege of seeing one of these grandkids get married prior to childbirth. She's almost 80 and the oldest son of her second youngest child will get married next summer. He's actually a college grad and his fiancee is still going to school, but I'm hoping they manage not to get pregnant before the wedding for grandma's sake.

4. Saying "religious hypocrisy" is like saying "wet water"

5. Yeah, I know....
but SHEESH!!!! As much as these people rant about abortions- to turn around and tell some girl that an abortion is one of her options?!?!?! How blind can they be to not see the problem with that logic?

Just boggles my mind....

6. It truly boggles the mind!
So I guess if she chooses the abortion she gets to go to school but is condemned to hell?

See? The church DOES believe in the right to choose. School or eternal damnation.

8. Yes, they did.
They basically said "We don't want to know about it, but the only way she can graduate from this school is if she has an abortion, and keeps it under wraps."

:hurts:

10. Better to commit what they claim they consider to be murder...
than to force them to admit that 'abstinence only' doesn't work.

12. Rat them out to a bishop. You might be able to really fuck them over for that.

13. That's my thought....
Obviously, since it's a private school there's no lawsuit to be had- they could kick a student out for parting their hair on the "wrong" side....

But though I think there could be a BIG stink made over a Catholic advocating an abortion, I'm sure they'd just deny it was ever said. I don't believe that any of this was in writing or witnessed by anybody....

14. That's why you don't make a public stink, you make a stink with the bishop.
You have to out-catholic the people from the catholic school. So either find the most observant person in the family or get ready to put on an act about how you don't pay for a catholic education to have it administered by people who defy the church's teachings and want to have "babies killed"

16. I think they've resigned to put her in another school rather than fight it....
Surely not the route I would have chosen...

11. first off, good thoughts going to your co-worker's niece
that is an extremely heartless way for the school to act. the girl and her family are doing what they felt was best for them and for the school to suggest an abortion boggles my mind. she is taking responsibility for her actions, but it seems that the school wants her to shirk that responsibility.

second, not only was what the school did heartless, it's disgusting. absolutely disgusting. there should be repercussions for both of them or neither.

yes, these two are responsible for the situation, but the school could have handled it in a much more sensitive and appropriate manner.

15. Yeah, it's LEVELS of BS....
First off the hypocrisy... Then, the double-standard for the male/female, which is just as much of a mind-f**k. That clearly tells the girl that it's all her fault, and the guy that he can knock up anybody he wants. Of course, legally that won't hold water. If she decides to keep it then the courts will more than likely make him financially liable, at least.

BUT- I don't know the daddy's response to all of this. He may very well be right there beside his girlfriend helping her to the best of his ability- that aspect wasn't relayed to me.
