...at my job about five years ago.

Los Angeles is a surprisingly small town, by the way.

Anybody ever get delayed news of karmic payback? Sweet. Very sweet.

2. People here would probably find it thoroughly dull.
Plus, too many details and it would reveal too much about my work specifics. But it was still very, very sweet. Literally made my day. :hi:

4. There was a girlfriend I had once. Dumped me like a worn-out pair of shoes.
Another woman who knew her said to her: "How could you do that to such a sweet guy? I'd give anything for a man to treat me the way he treats you!"

That other woman is now my wife. And the old girlfriend? Not married. No steady relationship. She knows me and my wife are happily married, and she always looks a little sick when she sees the two of us together...

I'm always courteous to her, but every once in a while, I want to say to her: "Check me OUT! In yo' FACE!"

But I don't... B-)

5. Heh. Sweet. Okay, here are a few (boring) details.
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 07:31 PM by Shakespeare
I used to work at a particular firm here in LA (before a brief stint in the bay area). For about 2 weeks, I was assigned to work with one particularly heinous, evil attorney when his assistant left our firm (I'd already been working at the firm for a few years, and had a perfect work record, and was well-liked by my bosses and co-workers). For reasons still unknown to me, he hated my guts. HATED me. Bizarre. Anyway, on a day when my other two attorneys (I'm a litigation assistant) were out of the office, he fabricated a lie about me--said I did something I (demonstrably) did not, and tried to have me fired. My other two attorneys got word of what was going on, and all hell broke loose (god, were they pissed). Needless to say, I was immediately un-assigned from him, and he got a swat on the nose from our managing partner (I ended up with a nice raise at the end of the whole debacle). Nasty, vile man.

Now--we all knew that evil man's wife worked at a firm in the adjacent tower, doing the same job I do. I happen to work in said adjacent tower now. And she has a very distinctive first name. I was toiling away in my cube this morning when I overheard somebody say that name. My memory clicked, and I flew out of my cube to find out if this was, indeed, the same person (she was known and intensely disliked by a lot of people at my old firm). Not only was it the same woman--evil guy's wife--but I learned that she was FIRED from my current firm for an incredibly stupid, arrogant, immature stunt. Fired on the spot, don't come back, don't even contact us again.

Knowing that it caused him and her temporary pain (and financial discomfort) caused me to laugh and laugh and laugh. And the fact that what she did was so hideously unprofessional made it all the better.

6. when I returned to my old job in the states...
Late in 2004 when I returned to my old job in the states, my immediate supervisor (a lunch-time drinker and all-around nasty woman) did her best to prevent me from getting re-hired, and when that didn't work out too well for her, did her best to get me fired.

Some months later, I was promoted on the very same day that she was demoted, and she's been an less-than-stellar employee in my department ever since. Since I make recommendations as to who gets a raise and who gets fired, well.. let's just say she's much more fun to work with these days. :)

Also, same company, same department, but just two weeks ago-- the "uber-whiz-kid with the hygiene problem" who thought he had been unfairly passed over for the promotion and does his best in a most cowardly, passive-aggressive manner to stymie me recently mouthed off to me a bit too loud and a bit to crudely. Although I myself tend to let this kind of stuff pass without a trace, the President of the company happened to be on the floor and the reaction was a week off without pay for him, and a kudos to me for my "remarkable restraint in the face of stupidity".

Karma? Luck? God? I dunno-- but regardless, I've been a rather smug little bastard this month... :)

8. I walked in to work one day.....
to discover that my hated boss and my office Nemesis were both gone. What I found out later was: The Nemesis had quit and threatened legal action against my boss on the way out the door, which began a company investigation of the boss' behavior (I was interviewed). My boss resigned rather than answer to the investigation. I never saw either one of them at the job again.

I don't mind telling you it was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. :)

9. Oh God, I could only hope...I've been waiting for the office nemesis
and her enabler (the GM, with whom I suspect she's having an affair) to be shitcanned, but alas, I don't think it will ever happen.

11. It's happened to me twice over my life.
And, I have to say, I am still basking in the sweetness of it. When you get fucked over and know you're right, watching the offender crash and burn is outstanding.

I'm glad for you, sweetie.
