I used to work at a particular firm here in LA (before a brief stint in the bay area). For about 2 weeks, I was assigned to work with one particularly heinous, evil attorney when his assistant left our firm (I'd already been working at the firm for a few years, and had a perfect work record, and was well-liked by my bosses and co-workers). For reasons still unknown to me, he hated my guts. HATED me. Bizarre. Anyway, on a day when my other two attorneys (I'm a litigation assistant) were out of the office, he fabricated a lie about me--said I did something I (demonstrably) did not, and tried to have me fired. My other two attorneys got word of what was going on, and all hell broke loose (god, were they pissed). Needless to say, I was immediately un-assigned from him, and he got a swat on the nose from our managing partner (I ended up with a nice raise at the end of the whole debacle). Nasty, vile man.
Now--we all knew that evil man's wife worked at a firm in the adjacent tower, doing the same job I do. I happen to work in said adjacent tower now. And she has a very distinctive first name. I was toiling away in my cube this morning when I overheard somebody say that name. My memory clicked, and I flew out of my cube to find out if this was, indeed, the same person (she was known and intensely disliked by a lot of people at my old firm). Not only was it the same woman--evil guy's wife--but I learned that she was FIRED from my current firm for an incredibly stupid, arrogant, immature stunt. Fired on the spot, don't come back, don't even contact us again.
Knowing that it caused him and her temporary pain (and financial discomfort) caused me to laugh and laugh and laugh. And the fact that what she did was so hideously unprofessional made it all the better.
