4. I don't just think it, I know it, and have the tests to prove it.
Or, to be more precise, I am more intelligent than the average person based on the kind of stuff that the tests that I've taken use to determine one's intelligence level, which tests, as we all know, also leave out a tremendous amount of material that should or could also be used to interpret intelligence.

Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 08:50 PM by KamaAina
unfortunately, due to the barriers we face in a society dominated by neurotypicals, the room is in a small nonprofit very definitely on the wrong side of the tracks. :eyes:

edit: for whatever reason, there are enough of us here (along with parents, etc.) to constitute a (seldom-used) DU Group:

20. lioness, again no "other"
In this case for savants.

I have a certain (limited) facility with verbiage. Unfortunately, not in any literary way, certainly not in a commercially-viable sense; merely enough to be a talented smart-ass.

Otherwise, I mostly walk into walls.

23. Which kind of intelligence
I'm an Aspie, which means I flunk at social intelligence. It's a major achievement for me to get through the elevator script.

Otherwise, I'm usually the smartest person in the room. However, given some of the rooms I hang out it, that's not saying much.

What scares me is that "normal" IQ is 100 and it's a logarithmic scale.

26. Nope.
I try to maintain sort of a Cyril Burt bias in reverse. In other words, I try to keep in mind all the advantages I possess being a straight white male in a first world country, coupled with the fact that most accepted criteria for "intelligence" is biased toward that group in the first place. It's really impossible to come up with an objective "G" or general intelligence, and I'm immediately suspicious of anyone who argues otherwise.

31. In terms of verbal IQ, apparently.
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 03:20 PM by AspieGrrl
When I was tested at the age of 7, my verbal IQ came out over the 99th percentile (very superior), but my non-verbal IQ in only in the 69th percentile (average).

My spatial sense is almost non-existent, I can barely read subtext in fiction, and I'm somewhat socially inept, but I'm articulate, have good fact retention, and understand much more than others my age.

So, in some ways yes, in some ways, no.

36. I disagree with the basis of the question...
it's based on an assumption that all certain knowledge can be quantified and assigned value. That means somebody has to be the impartial and objective arbiter of the value of knowledge. (A premise I can objectively reject even based on the limited knowledge of being aware of what I do not know. Omniscience is necessary to assign value to knowledge.) Otherwise we have to assume that all knowledge equal in value and scope. In that case who am I to say the quantity (because quality is unknowable) of my knowledge is greater than that of others?

An example...I have an IQ (tested) of 174. I'm certain that my coworker Kay would score less highly...but is that a reflection of intelligence or of the questions skewing in my favor? I might read more books and write publishable poetry and have a college degree and be a champion debater but she's a trained diesel mechanic and paramedic; it seems to me that my ability to put words together is by-and-large a lot less useful...even if many people put a higher value upon it. The valuation of knowledge is foolish...literally the undertaking of fools. That leaves only one metric: Do I know more than she does, sum in toto? That's an immodest and unprovable claim.

I voted that I'm of average intelligence knowing that the vast majority of people would concede that I'm more intelligent than they are. Not because they're wrong but because they're not objective and thus can't be right.

All philosophy after Socrates is bullshit, all intellectualism is classism and sophistry. Debating one's intelligence is the ultimate in narcissistic navel-gazing.

I'm smarter than Obama - which proves how worthless an IQ measurement is. He can think rings around me with half his brain tied behind his back. He wrote a paper on case law and chaos theory for crying out loud! I can barely define either.

But compared to the average Republican, I'm freakin' Einstein.

I had a long session with an educational psychologist to diagnose my dyslexia which, inter alia, recorded a significantly above average I.Q. when tested from a few different angles.

But I would certainly add in the caveat from Rabrrrrr about elements included and excluded from such testing.

65. I think I think about things substantially more than the average person
but am lacking somewhat in the common sense department. I think a lot of that just comes from having led a pretty sheltered life and not being much of a risk-taker; that leads to not learning about a number of things outside of your comfort zone and not being all that great at improvising. I know the things I care about pretty well, but don't even try to fake intelligence in the areas in which I lack it, as I think a lot of people do; it's pretty doubtful I could pull that off, anyway, as I'm apparently very easy to read.
